Position Information
TxDOT's Collin County Maintenance Office with the Dallas District is looking for a Transportation Maintenance Technician I, II or III based in McKinney, TX. This position performs routine maintenance work related to transportation activities such as roadway repair, light and heavy equipment operation, preventive maintenance, minor repairs on equipment, traffic control, assisting the public during emergency situations.

This position is for a Transportation Maint. Tech I, II or III. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level, and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Position Description
Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties:
Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices.
Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.
Maintains picnic and rest areas, rights-of-way, maintenance yards and comfort stations.
Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and brush.
Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
Performs all other job responsibilities as assigned

roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. - Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.
Inspects materials, equipment, and production procedures in a manufacturing plant or at point of supply to ensure construction materials meet Department specifications.
Works on a survey crew; operates survey instruments such as theodolite, transit and level, electronic distance meter, and total survey station.
Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications.
Trains other employees.
Minimum Qualifications:
No education required.
TMT I = No experience required
TMT II = 1 year experience*
TMT III = 2 years experience*
- Experience must be in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related technical training or education from an accredited institution may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications.

The required competencies for the Transportation Maintenance Tech I, II and III include:

Subject to extreme heat and cold: below 32 degrees and above 100 degrees for longer than a hour
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.

Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.
Must be able to report for duty within 45 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations (one week rotations).
