Job Overview
We are seeking an energetic strategic and results-driven Purchasing Director to lead procurement and supply chain operations overseeing the supply chain at our meat manufacturing plant while assisting the procurement team at the restaurant division when necessary. This role is responsible for ensuring proper inventory levels of all products necessary to manufacture and ship our products on time and within pricing strategies. In this role you will order products, negotiate contracts including incentive programs, manage supplier and broker relationships, recommend and drive cost saving initiatives, verify on-time delivery of purchases within spec, participate in company leadership meetings and represent the company to external sources.
The ideal candidate will have experience purchasing commodities, be a strong negotiator, have proven experience optimizing processes, and be a team player.
Responsibilities
- Lead strategic sourcing, selection, negotiations, and purchasing activities to achieve quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
- Source and purchase raw material, commodity, packaging, and ingredients necessary for production.
- Negotiate and manage incentive, rebate, and volume products across multiple disciplines.
- Monitor inventory to ensure just-in-time delivery model.
- Develop and maintain multiple supplier relationships to ensure a reliable supply of necessary products
- Monitor and manage performance, compliance, and pricing for all suppliers.
- Manage RFPs, pricing strategies, rebate programs, vendor contracts, and category plans to maximize savings and operational efficiency.
- Support initiatives by ensuring timely procurement of ingredients and materials for ideation, testing, and full production.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to address and resolve any defective, damaged, or unacceptable goods with vendors in a timely manner so as not to delay finished good shipments.
- Analyze market and commodity trends, forecast demand, and implement sourcing strategies that improve cost of goods and supply continuity.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Legal, Production, Warehouse, and Leadership to execute purchasing strategies and contracts.
Prerequisites
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, purchasing, business or the equivalent work experience
- Two plus years’ experience with protein/commodities market
- Familiarity with MRP (material requirements planning) systems for production planning and inventory forecasting
- Advanced Excel skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Manufacturing experience desired but not required
- Willingness to jump in and do what it takes to ensure success
Requirements
- This role requires working in our Mesquite, TX plant as well as regular visits to our Dallas office, no relocation funds are being provided
- This role requires the ability to work in a working manufacturing plant of varying temperatures (freezer temperatures to smokehouse temperatures)
Pay: $68,532.39 - $95,000.00 per year
