POSITION SUMMARY
We're seeking a skilled Industrial Painter to join our fabrication team. In this role, you'll be responsible for surface preparation and application of protective and specialty coatings to structural steel components, ensuring finishes meet project specifications and industry standards before parts ship to the field.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare steel surfaces prior to coating (blasting, sanding, degreasing, masking)
- Mix and apply primers, paints, and specialty industrial coatings using spray guns and other equipment
- Inspect finished coatings for thickness, coverage, and defects using mil gauges and visual inspection
- Read and interpret coating specifications, blueprints, and work orders
- Maintain and clean spray equipment, booths, and work areas
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and respiratory equipment
- Track and document coating batches, dry times, and quality checks
- Coordinate with fabrication and shipping teams to meet project deadlines
- Maintain compliance with EPA, OSHA, and client-specific coating standards
QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience in industrial painting, coatings, or blasting (structural steel experience preferred)
- Familiarity with spray equipment (conventional, airless, HVLP)
- Knowledge of coating systems (epoxies, urethanes, zinc-rich primers, etc.) a plus
- Ability to read basic blueprints and coating specs
- Comfortable working in a shop environment with exposure to fumes, dust, and noise
- Physical ability to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods (up to 50 lbs)
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
