Subtext is a new plant-based cocktail bar located in the heart of Lower East Side. Our focus is on crafting stunning, balanced, and creative cocktails that blur the line between culinary arts and mixology, with an emphasis on seasonal produce and East Asian culinary influences.
We will be opening in June 2026 and are currently hiring for all positions. If you have a passion for inventive cocktails, plant-based food, and interacting with customers, then this may be the perfect role for you!
What we’re looking for:
- Strong knowledge of wine and cocktails (both classic and contemporary) and comfort with full beverage service
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a hospitable and professional demeanor
- Thrives during late-night service and high-energy peak hours
- Natural ability to offer interesting and vivid descriptions of each menu item’s origin, taste, and preparation methods
- Mastery of tableside etiquette; high standards for cleanliness of workspace and service areas
- Team player with a proactive attitude and the ability to excel in a constantly evolving environment
- Able to stand for prolonged periods of time and lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Responsible and reliable, showing up to every shift on time and ready to work
- TIPS Certification is a plus!
What you’ll be doing:
- Deliver warm, attentive, and efficient service in a fast-paced service environment
- Demonstrate strong product knowledge over an extensive and regularly evolving cocktail and food menu, with the ability to upsell naturally
- Coordinate closely with bartenders to ensure timely and accurate beverage delivery
- Anticipate and maintain awareness of guest needs throughout the dining experience
- Handle high-volume sections while maintaining composure and professionalism
- Proactively address and resolve any customer complaints or issues with a positive attitude and a strong sense of judgment
- Maintain a clean, organized section, pre-bussing whenever possible and assisting with opening, reset, and closing duties
- Maintain all service tools including trays, silverware, plate ware, glassware, scissors, and tongs
- Assist in training new employees and helping out other stations of the bar as needed
