Connelly Tree Company is looking for a dependable, hardworking individual to join our tree care team as a Groundsman / Climber Trainee. This position is designed for someone who wants to get started in the tree care industry, learn the trade from experienced professionals, and have the opportunity to advance into a climbing position.
Position Overview
You will begin your training as a Groundsman, working alongside our tree crews to safely and efficiently support tree removal, trimming, and maintenance operations. As you gain experience, demonstrate good work habits, and become comfortable with the equipment and safety procedures, you will have the opportunity to receive hands-on training to become a tree climber.
Climbing training is not required, but it is available for employees who are interested in developing their skills and taking the next step in their tree care career.
Responsibilities
- Assist the tree crew with daily tree removal, trimming, and maintenance work
- Safely handle and move branches, logs, brush, and equipment
- Operate and maintain basic tree care equipment
- Set up and maintain safe work zones around job sites
- Assist climbers and crew members from the ground
- Learn proper rope, rigging, and tree care techniques
- Follow all company safety procedures and instructions
- Keep trucks, equipment, and job sites clean and organized
- Learn climbing techniques and equipment as training progresses, if interested
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments

Employees who show an interest in climbing will have the opportunity to learn and train alongside experienced climbers. Training will progress at a safe and appropriate pace, with an emphasis on proper technique, equipment use, tree identification, rigging, and job-site safety.
Our goal is to help motivated employees develop the skills and confidence needed to advance from Groundsman → Climber Trainee → Climber.
