American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a CVICU night shift position in Reston, VA, requiring at least 2 years of direct cardiac surgery recovery experience and ACLS certification.

Located in a hospital CVICU (Cardiovascular ICU) setting with 4 beds
-
Cares for fresh post-cardiac surgery patients, including immediate post-surgical and post-op day (POD) 1–3 patients

Patient ratios are 1:1 for immediate post-surgical recovery and 1:2 for POD 1–3
-
Procedures include care for patients in a newly launched cardiac surgery program
-
Advanced equipment used includes balloon pump, Impella, and Hemosphere or Acumen monitoring systems

EMR system is Meditech Expanse

Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
-
36-hour workweek with 3 weekend shifts required every 4 weeks

When floating, travelers maintain the same patient ratio as the unit they float to

13-week contract

Active VA or Compact RN license required
-
Current ACLS certification required (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of assignment)

Current BLS certification required

NIH Stroke Scale certification required

Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU experience, including direct primary recovery of fresh cardiac surgery patients

Experience with balloon pump, Impella, and Hemosphere or Acumen monitoring required

SSN and DOB required for consideration — no Canadian SSNs accepted

One professional reference required (two required for candidates from Florida or Missouri)
-
No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months

This role supports a newly launched cardiac surgery program

Primary nursing model is used on this unit; unit secretaries and techs are available for support

Navy blue scrubs are required

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible

First-time travelers are not explicitly excluded, but 2 years of direct CVICU experience is required
