About the Position:
The Accounting Supervisor supports accurate, timely, and compliant accounting operations by overseeing daily accounting functions and providing direct supervision, guidance, and support to Accounts Payable and Payroll staff. This position assists with financial reporting, account reconciliations, budget monitoring, grant reporting, audit preparation, internal controls, and process improvement while ensuring accounting transactions and payroll-related activities are properly recorded, reviewed, documented, and maintained in accordance with agency procedures and applicable requirements.
A Typical Day as a Accounting Supervisor:

Supervise, train, support, and provide daily guidance to Accounts Payable staff and Payroll staff to ensure work is completed accurately, timely, and in accordance with agency policies and procedures.

Review accounts payable and payroll-related work for accuracy, completeness, proper documentation, coding, approvals, and compliance with internal controls, grant requirements, and approved budgets.

Monitor workflow, deadlines, and workload distribution for Accounts Payable and Payroll functions; assist with prioritizing work, resolving issues, and maintaining continuity of operations.

Assist with preparation, review, and processing of accounts payable invoices, vendor payments, payroll activity, payroll allocations, and related accounting transactions as needed.

Review payment edit listings, payroll reports, account coding, supporting documentation, and related reconciliations to identify discrepancies and ensure timely correction.

Prepare, review, and maintain journal entries, account reconciliations, allocations, schedules, and other accounting records with appropriate supporting documentation.

Assist with monthly close, financial statement preparation, budget monitoring, grant reporting, and management reports by reviewing account activity, researching variances, and recommending adjustments.

Maintain organized accounting, accounts payable, and payroll records to support audit readiness, internal controls, regulatory requirements, and agency reporting needs.

Collaborate with Finance, Human Resources, program staff, vendors, and other stakeholders to research and resolve accounting, payroll, coding, documentation, payment, and reporting questions.

Support year-end close, annual audit preparation, workers' compensation audits, payroll reporting, accounts payable reporting, and other special projects by preparing schedules, gathering documentation, and responding to requests as assigned.

Promote strong internal controls by identifying process concerns, recommending improvements, supporting consistent procedures, and assisting with implementation of approved changes.

Maintain confidentiality of financial, employee, payroll, vendor, donor, client, and agency information in accordance with agency policies and applicable requirements.

Provide assistance to the FinanceAccounting Manager and other Finance leadership as needed to support accurate, timely, efficient, and compliant accounting operations.

High School Diploma with 3 years of experience (required)
- Bachelor's Degree or Higher (preferred)

3-5 years of Accounting Experience (required)

Prior supervisory, payroll, accounts payable, nonprofit accounting, or grant-funded accounting experience (preferred)
Additional Qualifications:
- Completion of DCFS criminal background check and fingerprinting
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Obtain an insured vehicle
- At least three years of driving experience with a valid driver's license
