Compensation
$40/hr commensurate with experience
$75,000 annually + comprehensive benefits once permanent
Position Overview
Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting grant and contract reporting, and contributing to budgeting and financial analysis activities. This role will work closely with internal departments, leadership, and external auditors to ensure compliance with funding requirements and accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare financial reports related to government and privately funded grants and contracts

Support specialized regulatory reporting requirements (e.g., NYS-based funding/reporting frameworks)

Assist with and coordinate external audits

Analyze financial statements and provide insights prior to leadership review

Perform and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations across assigned entities

Support the annual budgeting process, including data gathering, analysis, and worksheet preparation

Identify financial trends, variances, and potential issues, and communicate findings to leadership

Partner with internal departments to support cost allocation and cost accounting methodologies

Prepare ad hoc financial analyses and reports for senior management

Collaborate cross-functionally with program leadership, finance teams, and auditors
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting a plus

Minimum of 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit or government-funded environment

Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and grant accounting

Exposure to state or federally funded programs and related reporting requirements strongly preferred

Familiarity with healthcare or human services funding (e.g., Medicaid/Medicare) is a plus

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and levels of leadership
