POSITION TITLE: COMMON GROUNDS COORDINATOR

SUMMARY:
Prepares and service food items, specialty coffee and other beverages with exceptional
customer service to the residents, staff, family members and guests at St. John’s United.
Supervises, trains, schedules and directs staff and provides greeter functions for organization
for St. John’s United entrance on weekdays and some weekends.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Related Responsibilities
- Creates, maintains, and changes menu selections and coordinates procurement
and/or production of products from Common Grounds staff and other vendors.
- Manages Common Grounds inventory, stocking, and purchasing process for all
Common Grounds sites.
- Manages the use of and training for Point of Sale system for both St. John’s and
Mission Ridge.
- Coordinates transitions and cross training of Common Grounds functions.
- Greets guests and customers, take orders, mixes and serves hot and cold beverages
such as coffee, espresso drinks, blended coffees or teas
- Works to maintain exceptional customer relations and timely delivery of all orders
- Stock and maintain inventories of products or organizational resources for all
Common Grounds sites
- Tracks and records inventory, consumer and retail sales for Common Grounds sites
- Resolve customer complaints or problems
- Manage and process customer payments with accuracy
- Ensure schedule coverage
- Ensure that sanitation levels are at an acceptable level and all food is being handled
and prepared safely according to HACCP guidelines.
- Review financial statements, sales and activity reports, or other performance data to
measure productivity or goal achievement and to identify areas needing cost
reduction for all Common Grounds sites.
- Direct and coordinate activities concerned with the production, pricing, sales, or
distribution of products.
- Monitor vendors to ensure that they efficiently and effectively provide needed goods
or services within budgetary limits.
- Manage profit and loss within a budget to create sustainability.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

- Greets all guests and residents
- Assists guests with way finding and basic organization information.
- Creates a welcoming atmosphere by socializing with residents and guests
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Staffing Responsibilities
- Assists with the recruiting, engaging, interviewing, screening, and placing of staff.
- Supervises day-to-day work activities of staff by delegating authority, assigning and
prioritizing activities and monitoring operating standards.
- Trains new staff and identifies and trains shift leaders to assist in the possible use of
volunteers.
- Manages by providing positive and constructive feedback to volunteers in order to
reward, coach, correct and motivate.
- Generates and maintains staff and volunteer schedule.
- Utilizes software to schedule, track, and communicate with staff.
- Participates in annual staff and volunteer recognition events and provides ongoing
recognition.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Kitchen sanitation and safety
- Maintains clean work areas, utensils, and equipment
- Practices appropriate sanitation and safety techniques in accordance with Serv Safe
- Obtains Serv Safe Certification
- Practices appropriate knife and equipment safety at all times
- Performs daily and weekly cleaning duties as assigned
- Labels all foods appropriately
- Protects equipment, utensils, food, and other items of inventory from contamination,
spoilage, and pilferage
- Reports accidents and injuries in a timely manner

- Obeys safety rules of St. John’s United/Mission Ridge/Vista
- Identifies, reports, and/or corrects obvious safety hazards
- Attends mandatory safety in-services

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Employee Responsibilities
- Follows policy and procedures on annual TB testing.
- Follows policy and procedures on annual influenza vaccinations.
- Attends all mandatory in-services
- Has daily contact with the potential residents and their families
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma or GED required. Two years’
experience in managing a coffee shop or equivalent food and beverage establishment.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
- Knowledge of food and beverage preparation, sanitation
- Knowledge of day to day operations of a coffee and bistro establishment
- Proven face to face customer service experience
- Retail supervision and management experience
- Ability to understand written and verbal communication
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively in a professional manner
- Knowledge of scheduling staff
- Skill in organization, coordinating, and time management
- Ability to understand and follow safety policies and procedures
- Ability to respond to management and staff level volunteer needs in a timely and
professional manner.
- Ability to analyze data and financial records to inform operational decisions and
improve efficiency.
- Must have an entrepreneurial spirit to fulfill the vision of successful operation.
- Ability to communicate and articulate the Mission of St. John’s.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Requires moderate physical work more than 70% of the time, including lifting up
to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, standing, carrying,
lifting, walking, and bending for prolonged periods of time.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work involves some exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, fumes, smoke,
unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Work involves minimal exposure to hazards, bloodborne pathogens, or physical
risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
