Job Title: Vehicle Mechanic

Pafford Medical Services is seeking a skilled Vehicle Mechanic to support our EMS operations in Northwest Arkansas. The Vehicle Mechanic plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and readiness of our fleet by performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, and completing repairs on ambulances and support vehicles. Because our vehicles are essential to providing emergency medical care, this position requires a strong commitment to quality workmanship, attention to detail, and timely repairs to minimize downtime and keep our fleet mission-ready.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and scheduled services on ambulances and company vehicles in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and company standards.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, suspension, steering, brake, HVAC, engine, transmission, and drivetrain issues.
- Troubleshoot and repair emergency vehicle systems, including warning lights, sirens, communication equipment, power load systems, shoreline charging systems, and other ambulance-specific equipment.
- Conduct routine safety inspections to ensure all fleet vehicles meet federal, state, local, and company safety requirements.
- Complete repairs in a timely manner to minimize vehicle downtime and maintain fleet readiness for emergency response.
- Perform oil changes, tire rotations, alignments, brake service, battery replacement, and other routine maintenance procedures.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair documentation, work orders, and parts inventory using company-approved systems.
- Respond to emergency or after-hours repair requests as needed to support continuous EMS operations.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and company safety policies.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support the Fleet Department and EMS operations.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Automotive experience preferred.
- Considerable knowledge of safety practices and techniques in mechanics; considerable knowledge of diesel and gas engine mechanics; considerable knowledge of vehicle make-up; considerable knowledge of parts and supplies required for maintenance or repair.
- Basic computer proficiency
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in inventory control and recordkeeping.
- Must be reliable, dependable, and possess the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills, processes, and technologies.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions and maintain regular attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
Physical Requirements
- Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull tools, parts, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, and heavier items with appropriate assistance or mechanical lifting devices.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and work in confined spaces for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to perform repetitive physical movements, including reaching overhead, twisting, grasping, pushing, pulling, and using hand and power tools.
- Ability to work underneath vehicles, climb ladders, and safely operate hydraulic lifts, jacks, and other shop equipment.
- Ability to use manual dexterity and fine motor skills to diagnose, repair, and install mechanical and electrical components.
- Ability to work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments and tolerate exposure to varying temperatures, noise, dirt, dust, grease, fumes, and other conditions commonly found in a vehicle maintenance shop.
- Ability to safely operate ambulances, fleet vehicles, forklifts, and other equipment as required.
- Must possess sufficient visual acuity to inspect vehicles and components, diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, read gauges, diagnostic equipment, technical manuals, schematics, and computerized repair systems.
- Must possess sufficient hearing and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with coworkers, vendors, and supervisors, including by telephone and two-way radio when necessary.
- Ability to operate computers, diagnostic software, and other electronic equipment used for vehicle diagnostics, maintenance documentation, inventory management, and work order completion.
- Ability to maintain concentration, exercise sound judgment, and safely perform duties in a fast-paced environment where vehicle reliability is critical to emergency medical operations.
Schedule
- Full Time, Day Shift
- Extended/After Hours as needed
- Occasional deployment for special events and emergency operations.
