Quality Control (QC) Technician
Position Summary
We are seeking a meticulous and mechanically minded Quality Control (QC) Technician to join a teardown and recovery team in an automotive remanufacturing environment. In this role, you will serve as the first line of quality defense by inspecting transmission cases, hard parts, and sub-assemblies immediately following disassembly and initial cleaning.
The primary focus of this position is to evaluate gears, shafts, valve bodies, cases, and related transmission components for wear, pitting, scoring, cracks, warpage, and other defects. The QC Technician will determine whether components can be salvaged, routed for machining or rework, or scrapped.
The ideal candidate has a strong automotive or mechanical background, excellent attention to detail, and experience using precision measurement tools in a high-volume manufacturing or remanufacturing environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesTransmission Component Inspection
Visually and physically inspect disassembled transmission parts, including planetary gear sets, input/output shafts, clutches, drums, valve bodies, aluminum cases, and related hard parts for signs of fatigue, fractures, scoring, abnormal wear, or other defects.
Precision Measurement
Use micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, dial indicators, straight edges, and other precision measurement tools to verify that critical transmission components meet required remanufacturing tolerances and specifications.
Defect Identification
Identify common transmission-related failures, including gear pitting, case warpage, spun bearings, hairline cracks, valve bore wear, scoring, and component fatigue.
Part Disposition & Routing
Accurately sort, tag, and route inspected components into the appropriate disposition category, including:
- Salvage/Reuse
- Machining/Rework
- Scrap
Documentation & Traceability
Record inspection results and maintain accurate logs in the production tracking system to ensure traceability of core components throughout the remanufacturing lifecycle.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Communicate inspection findings to teardown, assembly, quality, and engineering teams to help identify recurring failure trends and common issues across specific transmission families.
Equipment Calibration
Ensure inspection tools, gauges, and measurement equipment are properly zeroed, calibrated, maintained, and ready for use.
Safety & 5S
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation while safely handling heavy transmission components and following all plant safety protocols.
Qualifications & SkillsEducation
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Automotive technology degree, technical training, or ASE certifications are strongly preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 2 years of experience in quality control, automotive repair, machining, heavy manufacturing, or a related mechanical environment.
Previous experience with automatic transmissions or automotive remanufacturing is highly preferred.
Technical Skills
- Strong familiarity with automotive drivetrain components and their functions
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools, especially bore gauges and micrometers
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, teardown manuals, tolerance charts, and inspection criteria
- Basic computer literacy for entering part dispositions and inspection results into manufacturing software
- Ability to identify wear patterns, defects, cracks, scoring, pitting, and other component failures

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods throughout the shift
- Ability to safely lift, manipulate, and move heavy transmission components weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Good manual dexterity and visual acuity to identify small defects, hairline cracks, and wear patterns
- Comfortable working in a remanufacturing plant environment with exposure to transmission fluid, industrial cleaners, noise, machinery, and production equipment
Pay: $22.00 - $27.00 per hour
