American Traveler is hiring a traveling Occupational Therapist with pediatric experience for a 13-week inpatient psychiatric hospital assignment in Maine, primarily serving a "tween" unit with ages 5–18.

Inpatient psychiatric hospital setting with 100 licensed beds, 50 of which are designated for pediatric patients
-
Primary unit is an inpatient 'tween' (pre-teen) unit with approximately 12 patients daily; cross-coverage to adolescent and younger children's units is required as needed

Patient population includes children and adolescents ages 5–18 with diagnoses such as ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, and ODD

Responsible for occupational therapy services for approximately 12 patients per day; approximately 90% will require evaluations and individual treatments
-
OT services include evaluations, individual treatment sessions, and therapeutic group facilitation
-
Variable shift schedule; start time ranges from 6:30 AM to 8:00 AM depending on unit needs, with approximately 8-hour days

Weekend rotations are possible; weekend shifts are typically 6-hour days

Holiday coverage is required with equitable distribution among staff

EMR: Cerner Millennium

Unit equipment includes a swing, crash pad, vibroacoustic chair, trampoline, steamroller, ramps, scooters, and medicine balls

Active OT license required; ME license or compact license required if applicable

OTR certification from NBCOT required

Current BLS certification required

Minimum 2 years of experience working with pediatric patients in any setting
-
Experience with sensory integration skills and interventions required
-
Experience with therapeutic milieu and running therapeutic groups required

Strong clinical reasoning skills and comfort with a variety of standardized assessments for evaluations
-
Understanding of executive functioning skills and interventions
-
High level of self-awareness and ability to adapt to varied patient and unit needs
-
Full SSN required for consideration

Valid driver's license required for consideration

Two references within the past year required, with at least one from a supervisor, manager, director, or charge nurse (peer references not accepted)

Copies of all certifications required for consideration

Flu vaccination required for employment clearance; medical exemptions are considered on a case-by-case basis

Candidate's permanent address must be 100+ miles south or southwest of the facility to be eligible; candidates living north of the facility may be considered on a case-by-case basis

Candidates must not have previously worked at any Northern Light Health Hospital in a permanent capacity

All requested time off (RTO) must be disclosed at the time of consideration

First-time travelers will be considered for this position

Experience with group process and facilitation is preferred; experience with pediatric patients and sensory integration is preferred
-
Orientation includes required hospital training covering self-protection, de-escalation, and restraint techniques, followed by 1–2 weeks of unit-specific orientation with OT staff

Treatment team meets 3 days per week, with weekly sessions for treatment plan updates
-
Collaborative team environment including Recreational Therapist, other OTs, Psychiatry, Nursing, and Clinical staff

Dress code is business casual; jeans are acceptable; closed-toed shoes required, no strings on clothing, and hair must be up if past shoulder length
