Under general supervision of the Library Director, responsible for assisting with the administration and organization of the Library.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Receives incoming library materials, empties books drops, and discharges library materials; sorts library materials, organizes materials on carts to be shelved, and shelves materials; shelf reads and straightens materials on the shelves and in the collection while shelving; performs circulation desk procedures; including patron services, registering patrons, collecting fines, placing material holds, and assisting patrons in locating materials; able to maintain effective working relationships with fellow workers; may serve at circulation desk averaging not more than three hours per shift; acts as attentive backup person to the circulation desk when not scheduled on desk; help plan and participate in special Library events, such as movie nights, children/teen crafts or other special programs; performs other work as assigned by the Library Director.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A college degree is preferred, but not required. Library experience is preferred, or a demonstrated ability to perform the job at a high level. An applicant who is bilingual is also preferred. Working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to handle public contact with tact and diplomacy. Must be able to perform essential job functions. Must be able to work two Saturdays per month.
