McKarl's Libations and Cuisine is looking for a talented, reliable part-time chef to join our catering team. We deliver high-quality, memorable food experiences for private events, corporate functions, weddings, and special occasions across the Jacksonville area.
Position Overview
We're seeking a Part-Time Catering Chef to prepare, plate, and help execute food service for off-site and on-site catering events. This role is ideal for a chef who thrives in a fast-paced, event-driven environment and enjoys variety over the routine of a single kitchen.
Schedule
Part-time, event-based scheduling. Including evenings, weekends, and holidays as events require. Hours will vary week to week based on the catering calendar.
Responsibilities
- Prepare menu items to McKarl's standards for catered events, both plated and buffet-style
- Execute event menus alongside the Executive Chef/Kitchen Manager, from prep through service
- Set up and break down mobile/on-site kitchen and food service stations
- Maintain food safety, sanitation, and proper storage/transport standards throughout events
- Manage portioning and presentation to control food cost and ensure consistency
- Communicate and coordinate with front-of-house/event staff to ensure smooth service timing
- Assist with inventory, ingredient prep, and packing lists ahead of events
- Adapt quickly to changing event needs, timelines, and client requests
Qualifications
- Prior experience in catering, banquet, or high-volume restaurant cooking preferred
- Working knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices
- Florida Food Manager Certification or ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Valid Florida driver's license (may be required for transporting food/equipment to venues)
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and adapt to off-site kitchen conditions
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Compensation
$18–$24/hour, depending on experience.
