Position: Part-time Shelter Advocate – variable shifts
Accountability: reports to the manager of shelter services
Hours: approximately 20-25 hours per week, rotating weekend to including days, evenings, holidays, and potentially overnight shifts
Summary/Objective
The Shelter Advocate promotes the mission and models the values of Anna Marie’s Alliance by providing direct support to residents.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
· Four-year degree in a human services field (social work, psychology, sociology) or two years relevant work experience.
· Fully operational vehicle, valid driver’s license, and current car insurance.
Other Requirements
· Experience working with persons with underlying mental illness, trauma, and or chemical dependency.
Essential Functions
· Creates a welcoming environment for all residence and assists in identifying needs during intake process.
· Provides advocacy and support to victims of relationship abuse.
· Responds to crisis calls and within the shelter promptly, and provides resource information and referrals to victims of relationship abuse in our agency.
· Maintains shelter security at all times.
· Meets with residents in a case management setting to review goals.
· Assists residence in identifying their strengths and in exploring solutions to barriers and assisting with personal skill-building.
· Communicates information between shifts on activities of residences.
· Maintains client confidentiality and follows safety policies.
· Keeps accurate records by inputting stats in agency’s data base.
· Follows Anna Marie’s Alliance’s policies, protocols, and procedures.
· Arrive to work promptly and regularly
· Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions and manage projects with varying deadlines.
· Ability to handle crisis situations, and de-escalate situations dealing with trauma.
· Assists in housekeeping chores, prepping and cleaning residents’ rooms, and or responsible for resident room cleanliness after departure.
· Assist residence with transportation needs.
· Participates in check-in meetings and in other meetings, as requested.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
