Position Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled PRN Wound Care and Post-Op Nurse to join our team. This role involves providing high-quality, personalized nursing care to patients recovering from surgery and those in need of wound care, either in home settings or medical facilities. The ideal candidate will have specialized training in wound care management, post-operative recovery, and patient education. This position requires someone who is able to work independently while collaborating with families and healthcare teams to ensure optimal healing and recovery. We are looking for a nurse who can grow with us and help standardize best practices for wound care and post-op recovery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct Care: Provide skilled nursing care for patients with wounds or those recovering from surgery, including dressing changes, wound debridement, and monitoring of post-op recovery.
- Health Monitoring & Assessment: Perform ongoing assessments of patients’ health and surgical recovery, including monitoring vital signs, assessing wound healing, and identifying any complications or signs of infection. Report any changes to the physician, family, and the care team.
- Wound Care Management: Administer wound care treatments, including appropriate dressing changes, infection control procedures, and use of advanced wound care products. Tailor care plans based on wound type, stage, and the patient’s overall health status.
- Post-Operative Care: Provide post-surgical recovery care, including pain management, monitoring for complications, and patient education on post-op instructions, mobility restrictions, and follow-up care.
- Patient Education & Family Support: Educate patients and family members on wound care techniques, pain management strategies, and how to support recovery after surgery. Offer emotional support to patients and caregivers during the recovery process.
- Emergency Response: Provide immediate care and first aid as necessary in case of emergency, including signs of infection or complications from surgery.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and comprehensive patient care records, documenting wound assessments, treatment plans, medication administration, and any significant changes. Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.
- Collaboration with Healthcare Teams: Work closely with physicians, physical therapists, and other medical professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans for each patient.
- Equipment Management: Manage specialized medical equipment related to wound care and post-op recovery, such as wound vacs, IV lines, or feeding tubes, ensuring their proper use and maintenance.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a current, valid license in Texas.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred, but not required.
- Experience:
- No minimum years of experience required, but at least one year of wound care and/or post-operative nursing experience is highly encouraged.
- Experience in home health care or private duty nursing is strongly preferred.
- Experience managing chronic or surgical wounds, including the use of advanced wound care products and techniques.
- Experience with post-operative patients, including those recovering from major surgery, joint replacements, or abdominal surgeries, is a plus.
- Certifications and Training:
- CPR and First Aid certification required.
- Wound care certification (e.g., Certified Wound Care Nurse [CWCN], or similar) preferred but not mandatory.
- Post-Operative Nursing or Recovery Care certification is a plus.
- Specialized training in patient pain management and infection control preferred.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong clinical nursing skills with a focus on wound care, post-op recovery, and patient education.
- Ability to assess, plan, and implement individualized care for post-operative patients and those with complex wounds.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and multidisciplinary care teams.
- Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in home healthcare settings.
- Empathy, patience, and a deep commitment to the care and well-being of patients.
Working Conditions:
- Hours: PRN (as needed), with flexible scheduling based on patient needs.
- Environment: In-home care and/or medical facility settings, including travel to multiple locations within Houston and surrounding areas. Must be comfortable working independently in a variety of care settings.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift, assist with patient mobility, and provide physical support as needed. Must be comfortable performing routine and specialized medical procedures for patients with surgical wounds and post-operative care needs.
Compensation:
- Competitive hourly rate based on experience and qualifications.
