A great UHY client is seeking an Interim Accounting Manager. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting experience, nonprofit accounting experience, and extensive month-end close and financial reporting expertise.
The Interim Accounting Manager role is a onsite position. This is a interim position with the potential for direct hire.
Interim Accounting Manager Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting.
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure all accounting transactions are recorded accurately.
- Reconcile all balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Collaborate with grant administration to ensure accurate recognition of grant revenue and expenses.
- Support daily banking activities, cash management, and bank compliance requirements.
- Oversee positive pay processing and other treasury-related functions.
- Monitor accounting processes and recommend workflow improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing coaching, training, and performance feedback.
- Partner with the Controller, CFO, and other finance leaders on financial reporting, special projects, and strategic initiatives.
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation while coordinating with external auditors.
- Assist with the implementation of new accounting procedures, internal controls, and process improvements.
- Participate in financial meetings and support cross-functional initiatives as needed.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, organizational policies, grant requirements, and applicable regulations.
Interim Accounting Manager Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of recent supervisory accounting experience.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge with experience in general ledger accounting and financial reporting.
- Nonprofit accounting experience is required; experience with larger nonprofit organizations is a plus.
- Extensive month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close experience.
- Experience reconciling all balance sheet accounts.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation.
- Experience preparing for external audits and supporting audit requests is preferred.
- Experience working with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics GP, Sage, Yardi, or similar enterprise accounting systems. QuickBooks experience alone is not sufficient.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and financial data analysis.
- Experience working alongside Controllers, CFOs, and other senior finance professionals is preferred.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Team-oriented with a collaborative approach and the ability to learn quickly.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
