The Duquesne City School District is seeking two vigilant and dedicated Unarmed School Security Guards to ensure the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors within our educational environment, one part-time and one full-time role are available. School Security Guards serve as a visible presence on campus, monitor activity through surveillance systems, and respond promptly to any security concerns or incidents. Security Guards will have a proactive approach that will help foster a safe, welcoming atmosphere conducive to learning and growth. Responsibilities Summary
- Patrol school grounds, hallways, entrances, and exits to deter unauthorized access and maintain order
- Monitor CCTV surveillance systems to observe activity and identify potential security threats
- Verify the identity of visitors, contractors, and delivery personnel before granting access
- Respond swiftly to emergencies or disturbances, utilizing conflict management skills to de-escalate situations
- Conduct routine inspections of school facilities to identify safety hazards or security breaches
- Maintain detailed incident reports and logs of daily activities and security concerns
- Assist with loss prevention efforts by monitoring for theft or vandalism
Qualifications Summary
- High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in a related field or higher preferred.
- Current Act 33/34, Act 114, and Act 151 clearances required.
- PA Act 55, Act 67 and CPI Training certification required.
- Prior experience in security, law enforcement, military service, or related fields is preferred but not required
- Knowledge of surveillance systems such as CCTV and familiarity with loss prevention techniques
- Basic first aid and CPR certification are highly desirable to respond effectively during emergencies
- Strong conflict management skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods throughout the school day
- Excellent observational skills with attention to detail in monitoring activities and environments
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to school policies
- Experience with student behavior modification, conflict resolution, aggression management, crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies.
- Able to respond quicky and calmly to emergency and non-emergency situations.
Reporting
Reports directly to the Coordinator of Safety and Security
Terms of Employment
- 10-month, August thru June when students are in session
- FULL-TIME: Monday thru Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, with a half-hour unpaid lunch. Some weekend and after school hours may be available for special events.
- PART-TIME: Monday thru Friday, 3:30 PM - 8:00 PM (shift may occasionally end at 7:00 PM, contingent upon building needs)
- $18.00 per hour
Physical Demands
This position requires frequent standing and / or sitting, and the ability to maneuver around a multi-level facility as expected for a school security guard. The employee will be required to operate various computer / technical systems for data entry and to demonstrate technological aspects of this position as described above. This position requires moderate to severe physical effort and is subject to Occupational Health and Safety risks. Other physical demands of this position include:
- Able to sit and / or stand for extended periods of time.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling up to 30 pounds.
- Kneeling, crouching, bending, and reaching to retrieve and handle materials and supplies. Manual hand / finger dexterity.
- Speak clearly and distinctly when communicating.
- Hear clearly.
- Adequate vision to perform duties.
