Position Summary
The Operations Surveillance Technician is responsible for monitoring daily field operations through the Samsara system from the control room. This role focuses on ensuring DOT compliance, monitoring employee driving behavior and working hours, and supporting safe and efficient field operations. The technician will actively review system alerts, track vehicle activity, and communicate with field personnel and management to ensure employees depart, arrive, and return safely and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities

Monitor the Samsara platform in real time from the control room.
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS) and driving time requirements.
- Review and investigate Samsara alerts related to unsafe driving behaviors, including:
- Speeding
- Harsh braking
- Rapid acceleration
- Distracted driving
- Seatbelt violations
- Fatigue-related events
- Track field personnel movements to ensure crews leave the shop in a timely manner and arrive at job locations safely and on schedule.
- Monitor return times to ensure employees safely return to the shop after completing field operations.
- Communicate with supervisors and field personnel regarding delays, safety concerns, or compliance issues.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, alerts, and compliance observations.
- Assist management with reporting and operational performance tracking.
- Escalate serious safety or compliance concerns to management immediately.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to fleet safety, operational efficiency, and compliance.
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in operations monitoring, dispatch, fleet management, logistics, or surveillance preferred.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations and Hours of Service requirements preferred.
- Experience using Samsara or similar fleet management/GPS tracking systems is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to monitor multiple activities simultaneously.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced operations environment.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and reporting systems.
