BBSI is currently accepting applications for Titanium Line Operators for our aerospace manufacturing client in SE Portland.
Job Summary
Clean cast metal parts using chemical processes and prepare them for inspection using a fluorescent penetrant system. Ensure parts are clean, properly processed, and ready for shipment.
Main Responsibilities
1. Chemical Bath Setup (Etch Line Preparation)
- Test and adjust chemical baths to meet required levels
- Take samples and review lab results
- Add chemicals or water to keep baths within specifications
- Monitor and maintain bath performance
- Check pumps, filters, and equipment for proper operation
- Troubleshoot issues and fix minor problems
- Always wear proper protective gear
2. Cleaning Castings
- Place parts into chemical baths (alkaline or acid) using hoists or machines
- Rinse parts and move them to drying ovens
- Perform hot water rinses when required
- Clean tanks and dispose of used chemicals properly
- Hand-clean or etch small parts when needed
- Sandblast large parts as needed to clean
- Remove markings and prepare parts for shipping
3. Penetrant Inspection Preparation
- Inspect parts for dirt or oil and clean as needed
- Apply chemical etching to remove a thin layer of metal (if required)
- Apply fluorescent penetrant liquid to parts
- Wash off excess penetrant after a set time
- Dry parts and apply developer (powder) to highlight defects
- Perform visual checks after processing
- Follow all safety procedures during the process
4. Safety
- Follow all safety rules and procedures
- Use protective equipment when handling chemicals
- Report any safety concerns
- May handle hazardous waste (with training)
Training
- On-the-job training provided
- Hazardous chemical safety training required
- May require hazardous waste training
- Training and certification in penetrant inspection (Level 1)
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (required for certification)
- 3–6 months of related experience (or similar training/education)
- Basic knowledge of chemistry and math (measuring, calculations)
- Able to lift 30–50 lbs regularly (up to 100 lbs occasionally)
- Comfortable working in tough environments (chemicals, heat, noise, etc.)
- Must be able to pass aptitude test
- MUST HAVE proof of US Person Status: US Birth Certificate, US Passport, or valid green card for ITAR Requirements
This position requires use of information or access to production processes subject to national security controls under U.S. export control laws and regulations (including, but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)). To comply with those regulations, this position may require applicants to be U.S. Persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents, protected individuals as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)), or eligible to obtain the required export authorizations from the U.S. Department of State or the U.S. Department of Commerce.
