Responsibilities
- Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments in outpatient, inpatient, or emergency settings.
- Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and patient symptoms accurately using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures, ensuring comfort, and managing intake processes efficiently.
- Perform phlebotomy (blood draws), administer medications as directed, and support basic life support (BLS) protocols when necessary.
- Maintain meticulous medical documentation, update patient records, and ensure compliance with medical records management standards.
- Support clinical workflows by managing appointment scheduling, patient flow, and coordinating with other departments such as radiology for X-ray procedures or pharmacy for medication management.
- Assist with specialized tasks including ECGs, specimen collection, wound care, and basic physiology assessments.
- Uphold infection control protocols and ensure a safe environment for patients and staff at all times.
Experience
- Prior experience working in dermatology, hospital medicine, urgent care, or emergency medicine environments is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated proficiency in medical administrative support functions such as appointment scheduling, billing support, and EMR/EHR management.
- Hands-on experience with phlebotomy, medication administration, vital signs collection, and medical documentation is required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD coding (International Classification of Diseases), and pharmacology enhances your effectiveness in this role.
- Experience working within hospital settings—preferably Level I or Level II trauma centers—and outpatient clinics will be advantageous.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner is essential for maintaining accurate electronic health records.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required; additional certifications like X-ray operation or advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) are a plus.
- Inpatient experience in medical-surgical units or PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) environments will strengthen your candidacy.
