The Residential Peer Support Specialist is responsible for providing daily direct care, supervision, and support to residents in a group home setting. This role focuses on creating a safe, structured, and encouraging environment that promotes recovery, resilience, independence, and personal growth.
The ideal candidate will use every opportunity to support, coach, and encourage residents while helping them build confidence, develop life skills, and work toward their personal goals. The Residential Peer Support Specialist will serve as a positive role model and mentor by demonstrating patience, professionalism, emotional support, and a “can-do” attitude.
This position requires strong communication skills, the ability to support residents during emotional or behavioral challenges, and a genuine passion for helping others succeed. Candidates should be dependable, motivated, and able to work as part of a team while maintaining a supportive and respectful residential environment.
Duties Include but not limited to
● Ensure that residents’ basic life, educational and emotional needs are provided.
● Act as an integral part of team planning and the implementation of the individual service plan designed for each resident.
● Assist in maintaining a healthy, positive environment for the residents by acting in a mature manner, while being a positive role model.
● Assist in keeping the group home clean and in teaching the residents how to clean.
● Prepare meals or assist resident, as age and developmentally appropriate, in cooking and preparation of meals.
● Assist in transporting residents to appointments or other activities.
● Supervise and document the location of residents 24/7.
● Keep confidential all information received or documented on all residents and their families. Discussion of confidential information with non-staff and other residents is prohibited.
● Maintain the security of all office/storage areas and the home.
● Dispense all resident medications as prescribed.
● Ensures all required documentation for residents is completed in a timely manner (i.e. medication logs, critical incident reports, monthly report, etc.) and maintained in the resident’s record. Provide information of resident performance in a professional, record keeping manner, documentation of behavior, shift checklist, fire drills and resident’s whereabouts.
● Attend staff meetings, training, and other meetings as requested by the Executive Director.
● At any time, assume additional responsibilities that are supportive of Serene Living.
● Complete all initial and ongoing training.
Qualifications:
● Must be 21 years old or older
● High School Diploma or G.E.D. and two years of experience in a related field working with youth
● Demonstrate the ability to be a positive leader, role model, and responsible.
● Must be able to complete written documentation in a timely manner.
● Valid driver’s license and auto insurance required.
● Completion of all pre-employment activities:
▪ Must pass FBI/BCI Checks, National Sex Offender Search, Alleged Perpetrator Search for Ohio and any state resided in during the previous five years, Systems for Award Management (SAM) search, Exclusion search, Abuser Registry Search, Nurse Aide Registry and Offender Search.
▪ Completion of TB Test with results
▪ Adult and Child CPR Certification and First Aid Certification if needed.
Pay: From $16.00 per hour
