Company Overview:
Confidential Multi-Family Office is a highly selective multi-family office serving a focused number of ultra-high-net-worth families. The firm focuses on judgment-led strategy, planning, entity management, governance, and disciplined financial execution.
Role Purpose:
The Controller & Head of Financial Operations is responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, visibility, and control across all family office entities. This role serves as the senior accounting and financial operations leader, providing clean, timely, and defensible financial information while keeping complexity from reaching principals.
This is an execution-focused role, not a CFO or capital allocation position. The Controller partners closely with the CEO & Managing Partner and Director of Operations to support a calm, well-controlled financial environment.
Core Responsibilities:
- Manage banking relationships, treasury functions, cash positioning, and capital movement across entities
- Execute and independently verify all wire transfers and treasury movements, including beneficiary and account detail accuracy, prior to submission
- Own and oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, and monthly close
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial reporting across all entities
- Serve as the firm's Sage Intacct system owner, administering and optimizing the platform, including entity structures, reporting, dimensions, and workflow automation
- Maintain entity structures and intercompany accounting across operating companies, real estate entities, and trusts
- Prepare lender, investor, and audit-ready financial reporting and covenant materials
- Coordinate closely with external accountants, tax advisors, and auditors
- Establish, document, and enforce internal controls and financial policies
- Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and near-term financial risks and escalate issues early
- Support real estate asset management with accurate financial reporting and cash flow data
Explicitly Out of Scope:
- Capital allocation or investment strategy
- Securities or portfolio management
- Acting as a Chief Financial Officer without CFO-level authority
- Enterprise risk policy ownership or board-level strategy
- Fund management or performance marketing
Measures of Success:
- No financial surprises to principals or leadership
- Financial statements are trusted without re-verification
- Clean, timely closes and audit-ready records
- Strong confidence from external accountants, lenders, and advisors
- Financial complexity is handled quietly and professionally
- Wire and treasury execution is accurate and independently verified before submission
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Required: extensive, hands-on Sage Intacct experience (multi-entity administration, reporting, and system configuration) -- this is a must-have, not a preference
- 8-15+ years of experience in controller-level or senior accounting roles
- Significant experience with multi-entity accounting structures
- Strong background in real estate accounting (commercial and multifamily preferred)
- Experience supporting multi-family offices, RIAs, private companies, or complex owner-operated structures
- CPA strongly preferred; MST or equivalent tax exposure a plus
- High attention to detail, discretion, and professional judgment
- Demonstrated track record of error-free execution on high-dollar wire transfers and treasury movements, verifiable through references
- Proven ability to independently track, prioritize, and close out multi-step deliverables without oversight or repeated follow-up
Additional Qualifications (Preferred, Not Required):
- Background with a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) or wealth management firm
- Experience coordinating with private trust companies or trust-owned entities
- Familiarity with lender reporting and debt covenant compliance
- Experience improving accounting processes and financial system workflows
- Background working alongside real estate asset management teams
