Mechanical Engineer (MEP / Building Systems)
About the Role
Are you a talented Mechanical Engineer looking to take ownership of complex, high-impact projects in a collaborative and supportive environment? We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the analysis, design, and delivery of innovative mechanical systems across commercial, institutional, and specialized facilities.
In this role, you won't just generate drawings—you will act as a trusted technical advisor, partnering directly with clients, mentoring junior staff, and delivering sustainable, high-performance HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection solutions.
What You’ll Do
- Technical Design & Analysis: Lead mechanical engineering design solutions across HVAC, plumbing, control systems, medical gases, process piping, and fire protection.
- Energy & Systems Modeling: Conduct energy audits, field surveys, life-cycle cost analyses (LCCA), and energy modeling using tools like Trane Trace and Carrier HAP.
- BIM & CADD Integration: Produce precise technical drawings, specifications, and reports using Revit/BIM and AutoCAD platforms.
- Code Compliance: Ensure all mechanical designs strictly align with governing building codes, industry standards, and constructability best practices.
- Client & Project Leadership: Manage technical relationships with clients, adhere to project schedules/budgets, and coordinate closely with cross-functional architecture and engineering teams.
- Construction Administration: Review shop drawings/submittals, respond to RFIs, evaluate change orders, and perform field observations.
- Mentorship: Guide and support less experienced engineers, assisting in their technical development and career progression.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Architectural Engineering (BSAE), or equivalent ABET-accredited degree.
- Experience: 5+ years of progressive mechanical engineering design experience in building systems (MEP).
- Software Proficiency: Strong hands-on experience with Revit/BIM, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and HVAC load calculation software (Trane/Trace, Carrier/HAP).
- Technical Knowledge: Strong foundation in HVAC design, plumbing/piping principles, and building code integration.
- Clearance: Ability to pass a background check and obtain security clearance for client/government projects. Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred:
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or active Professional Engineer (PE) License (or ability/commitment to obtain PE within 12 months).
- LEED AP certification or equivalent sustainable design credential.
- Prior experience managing small project teams or mentoring junior engineers.
