The Position of Kindergarten Teacher:
As a cooperative member of the Lower School team, plan, prepare, and deliver a comprehensive,
developmentally and intellectually appropriate and creatively engaging kindergarten curriculum to
an assigned class of students. Work collaboratively with the department to ensure that design
thinking is integrated into the curriculum and is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the
school. Provide an educational atmosphere where students are inspired to fulfill their potential for
intellectual and character growth.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Instruction and Curriculum
- Effectively plan and execute/teach the Kindergarten curriculum to develop students as
inquisitive learners, innovative entrepreneurs, and critical thinkers using the IB framework
- Provide cognitively challenging and developmentally appropriate instruction and projects to
students
- Assess and document each student’s performance/progress both formally and informally to
meet the School's standards, and provide regular feedback to students and their parents.
- Use PYP rubrics to assess student achievement
- Keep current and accurate assignments and grades posted; all grades should be meaningful
and accurately reflect the level of knowledge of each student
- Integrate appropriate educational technology that is consistent with the social and emotional
development of the age of your students and CDS standards
Classroom Management and Student Support
- Establish and maintain student behavior standards needed to achieve a positive classroom
environment; demonstrate strong classroom management skills to maintain a respectful
learning environment that ensures high levels of learning for all students
- Support student growth, academically and social-emotionally
- Provide a culturally and physically safe and open environment for learning, building, and
experimenting through a variety of materials, tools, and techniques
- Model and promote the value of failure as a learning experience
Collaboration and Professional Development
- Collaborate with other Kindergarten team members to implement an engaging, innovative,
and developmentally and intellectually appropriate learning environment
- Work collaboratively with the ECC and Elementary School teams and embrace and support
initiatives of the division
- Collaborate with learning specialists to identify student strengths and weaknesses and
implement appropriate techniques and materials to achieve positive student outcomes
- Keep parents informed as to the purposes and progress of intervention
- Commit to keeping current in professional learning practices and educational research
related to young children
