Job Description:
SUMMARY: The Diesel Mechanic requires the ability to perform unsupervised advanced maintenance and repairs and all truck systems.
Position Preferences: Vocational technical school training or equivalent experience Automotive experience Medium and/or Heavy-Duty truck experience Essential Duties: Function as a technician who can perform minor and major repairs without supervision.
- Perform work as outlined on minor repair orders with efficiency and accuracy, following dealership and factory standards
- Diagnose the cause of any malfunction and performs the repair
- Assist other technicians with major repairs
- Examine the assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended
- Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order
- Using shop tools and technologies to log, research and complete repairs both minor and major, including basic vehicle diagnostics
- Must be able to perform all work adhering to DOT, OSHA, and all ITC safety and maintenance policies; including but not limited to the correct selection and use of appropriate tools, PPE, machine guarding, and established best safety practice
- Doing preventative maintenance repairs like replacing or rotating tires, brakes and completing vehicle component lubrication and replacement, some electrical system repairs, and cooling system maintenance on gas and diesel engine vehicles
- Mechanic must have the ability to accept responsibility for their own safety, as well as the safety of others in the shop
- Meeting the physical and mental demands specified in this description is crucial for success in this position
Job Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 lbs on a consistent basis; occasionally up to 100 lbs
- Valid driver’s license
- The ability to work well as part of a team and outside
- The ability to solve problems and comfort using shop tools
Additional Skills:
- CDL Class A Drivers License is a PLUS
- Inspection License is a PLUS
