Job Title: KITCHEN PREPARATION AND COOK
Reports To: Food Services Manager
Classification: Non-Exempt / Part-Time (35 hours/week) / 10-month
Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Food Services Manager, is responsible for daily hot food preparation for break and lunch, as well as cafeteria cleanup. This position also supports ordering, inventory, record-keeping, and special events as requested.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:
Food Preparation and Service
- Prepares hot break and lunch items daily according to the established menu and standardized recipes
- Prepares various entrées and menu items ensuring quality, consistency, and proper portioning
- Works with parent volunteers to ensure timely and efficient meal service to students and staff
- Operates Mealtime pay stations, ensuring accurate transactions and proper account charges
Ordering and Inventory
- Responsible for placing twice-weekly orders with US Foods
- Places weekly food order with Bellagios Pizza
- Receives, inspects, and properly stores deliveries
- Labels, dates, and stores food items according to established food safety policies
- Helps maintain organized storage of dry goods, refrigerated, and frozen products
Food Safety and Equipment
- Follows all established food safety, sanitation, and handling guidelines
- Operates kitchen equipment including ovens, grills, steamers, dishwashers, and knives
- Cleans and sanitizes equipment after each use
- Performs scheduled and routine cleaning tasks to maintain a safe and sanitary kitchen environment
Cafeteria Cleanup and Maintenance
- Ensures all dishes are washed and properly stored after each service period
- Cleans lunch tables and kitchen areas after each meal service
- Returns equipment and food items to proper storage or disposes of them according to food safety standards
Administrative and Record Keeping
- Assists the Food Services Manager in maintaining accurate daily production records
- Completes all required documentation, reports, and logs as assigned
Event Support
- Prepares food for special school events as requested
- Assists with setup, service, and cleanup for events
Additional Responsibilities
· Serves as backup for the Food Services Manager when needed
· Performs all other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of one year of experience in a similar role; food service or cashiering experience preferred
SKILLS
- Ability to prepare nutritious, cost-effective meals
- Ability to maintain a clean and sanitary work environment
- Must possess (or obtain within 30 days) a current Food Handler’s Permit
- Ability to operate a variety of kitchen equipment
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask prioritize and meet deadlines
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· The work environment is in a school and most tasks will be completed in a typical cafeteria setting
· Some stooping, climbing and bending is required for this position
· Some limited lifting is required to move equipment or food deliveries into place, lifting of equipment generally weighs less than 20 pounds. On occasion, may lift up to 40-50 pounds.
· Must be able to push a variety of food services equipment around the cafeteria.
· Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time during food preparation and serving
Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
