Commercial HVAC Installation Technician
Position Summary:
Are you an experienced Commercial HVAC Service Technician ready to move away from daily customer interactions? This installation focused position allows you to use your technical and troubleshooting experience on commercial HVAC replacements, retrofits, startups, and commissioning.
Vectra Mechanical is a locally owned and operated mechanical contractor seeking an experienced Commercial HVAC Installation Technician to join our growing team. This position is ideal for a skilled service technician or installer who enjoys working with their hands, solving technical problems, and completing high quality commercial installations.
The majority of this position involves commercial HVAC installation work, with occasional diagnostics and troubleshooting when needed. This is not a traditional customer facing service technician position.

Responsibilities
- Install commercial HVAC equipment and accessories according to manufacturer specifications
- Complete commercial equipment replacements, retrofits, and system upgrades
- Install rooftop units, split systems, furnaces, air handlers, air conditioners, heat pumps, and related equipment
- Install copper refrigerant piping, including soldering and brazing
- Pressure test refrigerant piping, pull vacuums, and verify system integrity
- Install gas piping, flue piping, venting systems, and flue liners
- Complete high and low voltage electrical wiring
- Fabricate and install ductwork, transitions, and fittings as required
- Install and program thermostats, controls, and accessories
- Perform equipment startups, testing, and system commissioning
- Diagnose and resolve refrigerant, electrical, airflow, and control issues during installation
- Verify completed systems are operating safely and according to manufacturer specifications
- Deliver equipment to job sites and remove existing equipment when necessary
- Train, coach, and mentor apprentices and less experienced installers
- Complete installation, startup, and commissioning documentation accurately
- Communicate effectively with project managers, coworkers, and other trades
- Maintain safe working conditions for yourself and the installation crew
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures
- Participate in company sponsored training programs
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of commercial HVAC installation or service experience
- Strong understanding of commercial HVAC equipment operation and installation practices
- Experience with equipment startups and system commissioning
- Knowledge of refrigerant piping, gas piping, electrical wiring, venting, and ductwork
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, mechanical plans, and installation schematics
- Ability to diagnose refrigerant, electrical, airflow, and control issues
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work independently and as part of an installation team
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record
Preferred Certifications
- High school diploma or GED
- EPA Section 608 certification
- NATE certification or other HVAC trade certifications
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Previous HVAC apprenticeship or formal trade school training
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work on rooftops and in mechanical rooms, attics, crawlspaces, and confined spaces
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50 pounds or more
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights exceeding 15 feet
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach throughout the workday
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Willingness to work outside normal business hours when necessary

Experience Required: Commercial HVAC installation or service experience, 4 years minimum
License Required: Valid driver’s license

Pay: $70,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
