Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and New York licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our dynamic out-patient physical therapy practice. The PTA will work under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to provide high-quality patient care, implement treatment plans, document patient progress, and support patients in improving mobility, strength, function, and overall quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide patient treatment in accordance with individualized plans of care established by the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Assist patients with therapeutic exercises, gait training, mobility activities, functional training, and use of assistive devices.
- Monitor patient tolerance, response to treatment, and safety during therapy sessions.
- Document treatment provided, patient progress, and relevant observations accurately and in a timely manner.
- Communicate changes in patient status, concerns, and progress to the supervising Physical Therapist and care team.
- Educate patients and caregivers on home exercise programs, safety techniques, and therapy goals as directed by the Physical Therapist.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized treatment environment in compliance with facility policies and regulatory standards.
- Participate in team meetings, care coordination, and discharge planning as appropriate.
Student Supervision and Mentorship Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day guidance, orientation, and clinical support to a Physical Therapist Assistant Student in accordance with facility policy and applicable New York State practice requirements.
- Model professional communication, ethical practice, patient-centered care, documentation standards, and safe treatment techniques.
- Assist the supervising Physical Therapist and clinical education leadership in monitoring the student’s learning experience, clinical readiness, and professional development.
- Provide constructive feedback to the student regarding patient interaction, treatment preparation, therapeutic exercise instruction, safety awareness, and documentation habits.
- Ensure the student does not perform duties outside approved educational parameters, facility policy, or the direction of the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Communicate promptly with the supervising Physical Therapist regarding student performance, patient concerns, safety issues, or learning needs.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, orthopedics, and medical terminology to support accurate assessment and treatment implementation.
- Proficiency in manual therapy techniques such as trigger point therapy and physiotherapy modalities.
- Experience working with inpatient populations, skilled nursing facilities, and outpatient clinics
- Ability to operate physical therapy equipment and modalities safely while adhering to clinical protocols.
- Excellent communication skills for effective caregiver and client interaction—explaining procedures clearly and empathetically.
- Familiarity with outpatient care processes including care plans, discharge planning, and documentation standards for medical records.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within healthcare teams while maintaining high standards of patient care.
Qualifications
- Current New York State Physical Therapist Assistant license
- Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Successful completion of applicable examination and state licensure requirements.
- Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Physical Therapists, aides, front office and administrative staff
- Commitment to patient-centered care, safety, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- CPR/BLS certification preferred or required within the timeframe established by the employer.
- Prior experience in outpatient, hospital and/or rehabilitation settings preferred, but new graduates are encouraged to apply.

Location: Manhattan and Bronx or surrounding service area

Schedule: Day shift; weekend availability may be required based on patient and facility needs
