Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, energetic, and dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide exceptional care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, aging needs, or other health conditions. Duties
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility support using equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Monitor residents’ health by taking vital signs, observing patient conditions, and reporting changes promptly to healthcare professionals.
- Administer medications following prescribed care plans while adhering to HIPAA regulations to ensure privacy and confidentiality.
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and assist with meal service in accordance with safety standards.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing regular cleaning duties within the residence or community setting.
- Support residents in participating in social activities, community outings, and recreational programs to promote engagement and socialization.
- Document care activities accurately in compliance with agency policies and state regulations; develop and update personalized care plans.
- Use specialized equipment such as Hoyer lifts or resident’s <PERSON> (personal assistance devices) safely during transfers or mobility support.
- Provide compassionate Alzheimer's care, dementia care, or memory care tailored to individual cognitive needs.
- Observe residents closely for signs of distress or health issues such as changes in behavior or vital signs; escalate concerns appropriately.
- Collaborate with team members including nurses, social workers, and family members to deliver comprehensive care aligned with each resident’s goals.
- Follow all safety protocols including CPR and first aid procedures; participate in ongoing training to stay current on best practices in patient observation and emergency response.
Skills
- Proven experience working in assisted living facilities, group homes, nursing homes, or home & community care environments.
- Strong knowledge of patient monitoring techniques, medication administration, and vital sign measurement.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations ensuring confidentiality of patient information.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when assisting residents with mobility or transfers using equipment like Hoyer lifts.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with residents, families, and team members.
- Compassionate approach with a genuine desire to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities or aging-related needs.
- Experience working with people who have developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or memory impairments is highly valued.
- Ability to follow detailed care plans accurately while maintaining flexibility for individual needs.
- Basic knowledge of infection control practices including cleaning protocols within healthcare settings.
- Physical stamina to stand, walk, lift, and perform caregiving tasks throughout shifts; capacity for patient observation over extended periods.
