Position Overview
Bath Township is seeking a highly organized and customer-focused Zoning Administrative Assistant / Assistant Zoning Inspector to support the daily operations of the Planning and Zoning Department. This position serves in both administrative and field capacities and works directly under the supervision of the Planning Director/Zoning Inspector.
The successful candidate will serve as a liaison between residents, zoning boards, commissions, and township staff while helping ensure efficient and effective planning and zoning operations. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Zoning Administration
- Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries regarding zoning regulations, procedures, and requirements.
- Process permit applications, zoning board applications, and payments through the township zoning software system.
- Coordinate with administrative staff regarding zoning office procedures and application processing.
- Assist with the review and approval process of zoning certificates.
- Conduct site inspections to verify information related to zoning applications and permits.
- Issue zoning permits as directed by the Planning Director.
Board and Meeting Support
- Prepare agendas and meeting packets for zoning-related boards and commissions.
- Prepare and distribute required public notifications, including notifications to adjacent property owners and public hearing notices.
- Notify applicants and board members of meeting schedules and details.
- Attend day and evening zoning meetings and serve as recording secretary.
- Prepare meeting minutes and case decisions for approval by the appropriate board chair.
- Maintain board member attendance records and contact information.
Coordination and Administrative Support
- Coordinate the annual Zoning Boards meeting, including scheduling, venue arrangements, budget management, and attendee coordination.
- Coordinate annual planning and zoning workshops, including registrations, communication, transportation arrangements, and budget management.
- Calculate annual meeting attendance compensation for zoning board personnel.
- Maintain digital records and files of current and historical zoning permits.
- Process zoning compliance record requests.
- Update the township website and social media platforms with zoning meeting information.
- Serve residents and community members in a professional, ethical, and customer-focused manner.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, board members, and the public.

Qualifications
Required:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license
Preferred:
- Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, or a related field
- Two to three years of experience in planning, zoning, administration, municipal government, or a related field
Physical Requirements
To perform the essential functions of this position, the employee must be able to:
- Sit for extended periods of time
- Use hands and fingers for computer and office tasks
- Communicate effectively through speaking and hearing
- Occasionally lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds
- Read maps and documents and distinguish colors when necessary
Work Environment

Pay: $28.00 - $32.00 per hour
