INSTRUMENT PERSON
A Long Island-based Civil Engineering and Land Surveying Firm, with over 100 years of experience, has an open position for an Instrument person to join our growing team. The firm has successfully completed projects throughout Long Island, NYC, upstate NY, Connecticut and New Jersey.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Proficient use of survey instruments and equipment including a level, total station, on board and handheld data collectors, GPS receiver.
- Proficient use of data collector software, routines, and functions such as traversing, stake out, data collection for topo, etc.
- Care and safeguarding of equipment.
- Ensure that all survey instruments and equipment is accounted for at all times.
- Responsible for notifying the Crew Chief when equipment requires adjustment or calibration.
- Perform minor field calibration of equipment.
- Familiarity with company field methods and procedures.
- Perform advanced data collection functions including translations, rotations, resections, etc.
- Note taking and documenting all phases of work as it relates to, title work, boundary, topographic, traversing, leveling, GPS, construction.
- Understand the responsibilities of a Crew Chief and have the capacity to complete certain tasks without direct supervision.
- Additional tasks requested by supervisors.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Minimum 1-year experience as a Rod Man as defined by BBV or minimum 1 year of similar experience outside the company
- Willingness to work outdoors, for extended periods, in a variety of weather conditions
- Willingness to work long hours
- Ability to take direction and to work as a team member.
- Willingness to travel.
- Able to carry heavy gear and equipment.
- Proper use of sledgehammer, shovel, posthole digger, pick, ax, manhole bar, etc.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $34.00 per hour
