About the Role:
The Safety Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring a safe and compliant working environment within the manufacturing facility. This position is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and maintaining safety programs that align with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies. The Safety Specialist will conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions. Collaborating closely with management and employees, this role reinforces fosters a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement.
Ultimately, the Safety Specialist ensures that all safety protocols are effectively communicated and adhered to, minimizing workplace accidents and promoting employee well-being.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinate regulatory compliance monitoring, documentation, and reporting.

Manage the facility Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and Hazard Communication program.

Assist with the planning, implementation, inspect, and maintenance of required training, reporting, and recordkeeping for safety compliance programs.

Assist with the development, coordination, and delivery of training, coach employees on safe work practices and the proper use of safety equipment.

Promote a safe and healthy work environment.

Conducts facility audits to verify compliance and operational excellence; document findings and recommend corrective actions.

Conduct and document inspections of safety audits including:
-
Assist with job safety analyses (JSAs) and implement controls and countermeasures to reduce risk.

Perform safety risk assessments (virtual and hands-on) for products, processes, and operations.

Identify, assess, and resolve ergonomic risks, including validation of parts and processes to ergonomic standards.

Investigate incidents (injuries, property damage, near misses, releases, and losses), determine root causes, and lead corrective and preventive action plans.

The Safety Specialist utilizes their expertise in regulatory compliance and risk management daily to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.

Requires knowledge of shop operations and OSHA standards. Knowledge of welding, painting, material handling and machining useful. Demonstrated understanding of OSHA

Familiarity with local regulations
Minimum Qualifications:

Associates degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in a safety role within a manufacturing environment.

Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.

Proven experience conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively train and engage employees.
Preferred Qualifications:

Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) certification.

Experience with ISO 45001 or other safety management system standards.

Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability practices in manufacturing.

Proficiency in safety management software and data analysis tools.

Demonstrated ability to lead safety committees or cross-departmental safety initiatives.

Bilingual (Spanish) a plus
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents such as blueprints, routings, work orders, engineering specifications and safety regulations. Ability to write routine reports and documentation. Ability to effectively present information to customers and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as dimensions, tolerances, proportions and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
