Role Overview
We are seeking a Middle School Humanities Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. The Humanities Teacher will provide rigorous, engaging instruction in English Language Arts and/or History/Social Studies, helping students strengthen their reading, writing, critical thinking, discussion, and analytical skills.
This role may include General Education, Special Education, ICT co-teaching, or SETSS responsibilities, depending on certification, experience, and school need.
Key Responsibilities
Humanities Instruction & Curriculum
- Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction in English Language Arts, History, and/or Social Studies.
- Design engaging lessons that build students’ reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, discussion, and analytical thinking skills.
- Support students in analyzing complex texts, primary and secondary sources, historical events, and diverse perspectives.
- Teach students to write clearly and effectively across genres, including literary analysis, argumentative writing, informational writing, and source-based responses.
- Create opportunities for students to engage in meaningful discussion, debate, inquiry, and project-based learning.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and ensure access to grade-level content.
Assessment & Data
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress.
- Analyze student data to adjust instruction, provide targeted support, and plan interventions.
- Set and track measurable academic goals for students.
- Provide timely and meaningful feedback to students to support growth in reading, writing, and critical thinking.
Special Education & Inclusion
- Implement IEPs with fidelity, including accommodations, modifications, and specially designed instruction.
- Collaborate with co-teachers, SETSS providers, service providers, and families to support student success.
- Support inclusive classroom practices that ensure all students can access rigorous Humanities instruction.
- Maintain accurate documentation and comply with required special education timelines and expectations, as applicable.
Student Support & Classroom Culture
- Create a structured, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
- Build strong relationships with students and families.
- Support students’ academic, social-emotional, and character development.
- Promote accountability, independence, collaboration, and a love of learning.
- Reinforce school-wide expectations and contribute to a positive middle school culture.
Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Collaborate with grade-level teams, content teams, leadership, and families.
- Participate actively in coaching, professional development, team meetings, and school-wide initiatives.
- Reflect on instructional practice and use feedback to continuously improve.
- Contribute to a strong adult culture rooted in collaboration, equity, and shared responsibility for student success.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- New York State Teaching Certification preferred.
- Certification in English Language Arts, Social Studies, Students with Disabilities, or related area preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience preferred.
- Experience teaching middle school students strongly preferred.
- Experience with Integrated Co-Teaching, SETSS, or inclusive classroom settings preferred.
- Strong knowledge of literacy instruction, writing instruction, and/or history/social studies content.
- Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction for students with diverse learning needs.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues and engage with diverse communities.
- Experience teaching English as a New Language students is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 - $105,375.00 per year
