About WonderWorks Lab
At WonderWorks Lab, we deeply believe education has the power to shape the future. We care deeply about STEM and the next generation of curious thinkers, builders, and innovators. Our hands-on projects spark joy, creativity, and resilience—helping children discover their passions and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Do you love supporting kids as they explore, create, and dream big?
WonderWorks Lab is seeking a passionate, dependable, and caring Float/Assistant Instructor available every weekday afternoon to support our enrichment instructors and operations team. This is a flexible "utility" role: you'll step in wherever you're needed most—leading/assisting with hands-on workshops for elementary-aged children (ages 5–12), preparing class materials, and helping with day-to-day administration. Our classes connect science, engineering, and creativity through interactive STEM kits and activities, empowering students to see themselves as problem-solvers and inventors.
What You'll Do
- Be available every weekday afternoon to float between classes and tasks as needed (roughly 10-12 hours/week total).
- Assist/Lead 90-minute after-school/enrichment STEM classes—supporting small groups, managing materials, and helping keep activities running smoothly.
- Step in as a substitute instructor when a lead is unavailable.
- Prepare and test class materials and STEM kits ahead of sessions (for example: circuits, bridges, robots, and more!) so classes run smoothly.
- Help with administrative tasks such as inventory, kit restocking, accounting, and communication with families.
- Travel between assigned class locations in Burlingame, Belmont, Millbrae, and surrounding areas as needed.
- Help create a safe, supportive environment where every child feels excited to learn and try new things.
To Succeed in This Role, You Should…
- Be passionate about education and children's growth.
- Be reliable, organized, and comfortable juggling a mix of classroom support, prep work, and admin tasks.
- Anticipate and explain tricky steps with patience and creativity when working with students.
- Be comfortable guiding kids through challenges and celebrating their successes.
- Take initiative—floats often spot what needs doing before being asked.
Qualifications
- Passion for education and working with children (experience with ages 5–12 preferred).
- Some college or related experience; teaching or classroom assistant experience preferred; STEM background preferred.
- Fun, patient, and engaging personality.
- Available every weekday afternoon (this is essential for the role).
- Reliable transportation to travel between locations.
- Must pass a background check & fingerprinting (required).
