We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Field Chemist - HHW (Hazardous Household Waste) to join our dynamic team. As an Environmental Field Chemist - This is a Blue-collar chemist position not a research and development/lab position. You would be stationed at Household Hazardous Waste client site.
- Position requires 40-hour HAZWOPER trained individual with experience handling, lab packing, transportation and disposal of hazardous waste while adhering to DOT/EPA regulations for hazardous waste.
- Teams on-site; train and mentor new staff, create exceptional customer service through professionalism, safety and innovative solutions.
- Greet and ask residents for verification of County residency, screen out unacceptable products, reject hazardous waste materials delivered by out-of-County residents and/or non-residential generators.
- Distribute County-provided educational materials to residents attending the satellite collection events
- Unload all acceptable HHW materials from private vehicles.
- Bulk and/or pack all collected materials in compatible chemical groupings and in accordance with all relevant Federal, State and Local regulations.
- Clean up and remove immediately all spilled HHW materials and broken containers resulting from resident or Contractor accidents.
- Load segregated HHW materials onto Contractor vehicle for removal from collection site.
- Dispose all non-hazardous wastes into a receptacle and remove that receptacle from the collection site following each event.
- Remove and recycle all corrugated cardboard received at the collection site with bins provided by the Contractor.
- Assemble public outreach supplies (including a cart, large off-site directional signs and boxes of brochures) following each collection and deliver these supplies to site of the next collection.
- Field services include segregation, and collection, packaging, labeling, disposal and transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. sampling drums; and work outside in weather elements.
- Responding to emergency incidents involving hazardous materials and performing risk analysis to determine the boundaries/ zones, proper personal protective equipment, mitigation, clean up and packaging per protocols and preparing ER Reports.
Requirements
Successful candidates must be able to pass background check; DOT/medial physical before hire and pre-employment drug testing. We are a Drug Free Workplace Equal Opportunity Employer. Must have clean driving record, ability to work 40-50 hours per week; must be able to handle & move drums of at least 250 – 450 pounds; shall be able to read and write, and speak English; Shall have a Maryland Class C License or equivalent (CDL preferred not required); Shall maintain a professional image. Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
