TITLE: Senior Assessor’s Data Clerk

PAY RANGE: Grade 10 $18.6325 - $ 26.2311 per hour

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This work involves responsible coordination of the New York State Office of Real Property Services Version 4 Software and clerical tasks in the City Assessor’s Office. The incumbent coordinates all assessment data entry information for input through a computer terminal and performs the various tasks inherent in Real Property Services Version 4 Software. Direct supervision is received from the City Assessor. The Senior Assessor’s Data Clerk performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Coordinates all data entry from other staff members to complete and balance assessment roll;
Coordinates and submits Assessor’s Annual Report to New York State; answers all inquiries from State personnel regarding this report;
Inputs changes to assessment data through a computer terminal;
Takes applications for “Over 65” Exemptions, Veteran’s Exemptions and grievances;
Keypunches change of address requests and title changes;
Answers telephone, furnishes information to the general public;
Supervises temporary file clerk;
Sorts and mails tax bills;
Processes non-profit applications.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Working knowledge of the assessment process; good knowledge of office terminology; good knowledge of basic arithmetic and English; ability to get along with others; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to supervise and direct others; high degree of accuracy; neat and tactful; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EITHER
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two-year college or university with an Associate’s degree in Business Administration or related field and two (2) years of experience in a property assessment office and knowledge of the New York State Office of Real Property Services Version 4 Software;
OR
(B) Graduation from high school or possession of high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of experience as defined in (A).
NOTE:
Additional experience beyond five (5) years cannot be substituted for high school graduation. Two (2) years’ experience is required; additional education beyond an Associate’s degree cannot be substituted for the two (2) years’ experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Eligible must possess a New York State driver’s license at the time of appointment.
Pay: $18.63 - $26.23 per hour
