This position is with primary responsibility for operating the tooth rolling machine and inserting of tooth material into a packing ring backing. This individual will be fully knowledgeable about all aspects of the full operation of the equipment. On a day-to-day basis, the Operator is responsible for setting up and operating machine tools to produce precision parts, producing small batches or large quantities of parts and ensuring products meet precise specifications. Willingness and aptitude to be cross trained to operate multiple machines is an asset in this position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Functional
· Must be able to read and understand the drawings (specifically the turning page)
· Must be able to properly use and read a measuring tape and dial calipers
· Required to learn and understand the different material types and tooth profiles used, and make the appropriate selection based off the specs from the drawing
· Understands and can demonstrate how to properly fill out inventory documentation for tooth material pulled from inventory
· The operator will learn how to set up and operate the tooth rolling machine for various tooth material types, sizes and profiles
· The operator will learn how to insert the tooth material into a packing ring steel backing by way of a hammer, flathead screwdriver (staking process) and a pneumatic chisel (peening process)
· The operator must be organized as to not mix up rings or tooth material made for specific rings
· The operator must be aware of work schedules too and work efficiently to reduce delays for internal customers
Additionally
The operator will be required to learn the joint grinding process.
· This will require setting up the tooth trimming saw and removal of excess tooth material from the end of the segments
· Setting up and operation of radial arm grinder for final removal of tooth material and blending of the joint end of segments

Educational Requirements:
· Requires high school diploma and basic math skills
Experience Requirements:
· Solid understanding of blueprints and the ability to perform work from them.
· Ability to use various measuring tools like calipers and measuring tape
· Ability to use simple math to calculate material needs for each ring
· Strong problem-solving skills
· Strong communication skills
· Good observational skills
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to lift and manipulate 65 pounds occasionally with assistance.
· Must be able to repeatedly pick up and manipulate 20 pounds multiple times per shift
· Ability to work more than 40 hours per week or 8 hours per day to support business needs.
· Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
· Must be able to frequently bend, stoop.
· Must be able to swing a hammer for several hours (intermittently)
· Must be able to operate a pneumatic chisel for several hours (intermittently)
