Position Summary
The Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring that incoming materials, in-process production, and finished products meet established quality standards and specifications. This position performs inspections and measurements, documents quality results, identifies and segregates nonconforming materials, and works closely with Quality and Production teams to resolve quality-related issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect and approve incoming materials by verifying specifications, reviewing supplier Certificates of Analysis (CoA), Certificates of Conformance (CoC), and dimensional data, and performing visual and dimensional inspections.
- Identify, reject, and segregate materials or parts that do not meet specifications and coordinate their return to suppliers as appropriate.
- Perform in-process inspections by verifying specifications and conducting visual and dimensional measurements.
- Identify and segregate nonconforming in-process parts in the designated HOLD area for evaluation and disposition.
- Document inspection results accurately through quality reports, inspection records, logs, and other required documentation.
- Maintain measurement equipment in proper working condition by following operating instructions and calibration requirements.
- Report equipment repair or calibration needs to the Quality Supervisor/PPAP Coordinator.
- Monitor production processes and identify conditions that do not meet established process or product requirements.
- Communicate quality issues promptly to the Quality Supervisor and Production Supervisor and assist with timely resolution.
- Work collaboratively with Production personnel to investigate and resolve quality-related issues.
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following all applicable safety standards, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain and expand technical knowledge through training, educational opportunities, and review of relevant technical publications.
- Maintain knowledge of safety-designated product requirements.
- Perform other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a similar quality inspection role within an automotive parts manufacturing environment preferred.
- ASQ Quality Control certification preferred.
- Demonstrated experience using dimensional inspection equipment, including calipers, micrometers, pin gauges, and ring gauges required.
- Strong understanding of quality control standards, inspection methods, and measurement techniques required.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints required.
- Knowledge and practical experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) preferred.
- Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC) charting preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
- Strong mathematical and technical skills required.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills required.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Regularly use hands and fingers to handle, manipulate, and feel materials and components.
- Frequently sit and reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally stand, walk, and lift or move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to communicate effectively through speaking and to perform duties requiring adequate vision and hearing.
- Work overtime as necessary to support business and production requirements.
- Work in a manufacturing environment while adhering to all applicable safety requirements and procedures.
