Kolstad is seeking a reliable, organized, and safety-conscious Material Handler – Yard Operations to join our team in Blaine, Minnesota. In this role, you will be the heartbeat of our yard, ensuring a smooth, continuous flow of truck bodies, chassis, and trailers between the yard and our production bays. This is a dynamic role that goes far beyond driving. You will be fully responsible for the organization, inventory, and logistics of our outdoor space by ensuring our Assembly Technicians have the unfinished products they need exactly when they need them, clearing out completed units, and managing all outdoor shipping and receiving.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle & Unit Movement
- Safely and efficiently maneuver truck bodies, chassis, and trailers around the yard.
- Stage unfinished products and incoming units to prepare them for production.
- Promptly move completed units out of production bays to clear space for the next scheduled builds.
- Coordinate closely with shop supervisors to maintain an uninterrupted workflow for the assembly teams.
Yard Logistics & Organization
- Strategically organize the yard layout to maximize space utilization, safety, and accessibility.
- Conduct regular inventory counts of products, units, and materials stored outdoors.
- Maintain clear, safe, and organized driving lanes, ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
Shipping, Receiving & Documentation
- Direct and manage incoming deliveries of large components and items stored in the yard.
- Oversee the loading and outbound shipping of completed vehicles and materials.
- Verify incoming shipments against bills of lading and purchase orders to ensure accuracy.
- Inspect arriving chassis and truck bodies for any transit damage and report discrepancies immediately.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience operating yard tractors (mules or shunts), heavy duty trucks, or large equipment in a manufacturing, distribution, or logistics environment.
- Forklift Requirement: Proven experience safely operating industrial forklifts to move materials, load, and unload shipments.
- Precision Driving: Exceptional spatial awareness and the ability to back up and maneuver large trailers and truck bodies safely into tight production bays.
- Inventory Skills: Strong organizational skills with experience tracking inventory or managing logistics layouts.
- Physical Demands: Ability to work outdoors year-round in Minnesota weather conditions. Must be able to climb in and out of equipment cabs frequently and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Safety Mindset: A proven track record of prioritizing safety, following strict site protocols, and identifying potential yard hazards.
- License Requirement: A valid driver’s license is required. A Commercial Driver's License is a plus, but is not required for strictly on-site yard movement.
Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
