Location: Osceola County Housing & Community Services – 1392 E. Vine St., Kissimmee, FL 34744
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday; 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Pay Rate: $18.14 per hour
Required: Must be able to clear pre-employment Level II background check, drug test, education and employment verification; Must possess a valid and active driver's license
General Description of Duties
Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide support services to citizens inquiring about housing and community development related programs. Employees in this position perform at entry level to provide information to clients, answer general questions, clarify program-related policies and procedures, establish program eligibility, and provide referrals to various services. Position performs a variety of clerical and administrative support functions within the Housing and Community Services Department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- Serves as receptionist, greeting and answering general inquiries from the public related to Housing Programs operations, organizational structure, policies and procedures.
- Receives specific inquiries and concerns by telephone and in person from citizens; answers inquiries and requests from the general public, through friendly, professional customer service skills, ascertaining the needs of the customer and providing appropriate assistance and information, or directing to the appropriate program and/or personnel.
- Receives and verifies accuracy of all documents, forms and applications provided by clients for completion and ensures program eligibility.
- Completes intake forms and procedures for clients applying for assistance from the Housing and Community Services Department.
- Schedules appointments and meetings for potential clients.
- Responds to client and/or public complaints, resolves personally or refers escalated issues to the appropriate supervisor or the Social Service Manager.
- Maintains effective relationships with agencies providing services to Osceola County.
- Ensures all applicable policies and procedures are followed in the processing of housing and community development applications.
- Performs a variety of critical record keeping duties; maintains department record keeping and filing systems relevant materials appropriate to assigned unit.
- Provides information to other offices/departments, agencies, and the general public regarding departmental regulations, rules, and procedures.
- Performs duties as assigned/necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in clerical/secretarial support functions.
Miscellaneous: Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Knowledge of business English and spelling.
- Ability to clearly communicate information both verbally and in writing.
- Skill in the principles and techniques of customer service skills; ability to deal diplomatically with sensitive situations and irate individuals.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment, e.g., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
- Ability to access, operate, and maintain various software applications.
- Ability to read, update, and maintain various records and files.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communications with housing and social service agencies, co-workers, department management, and the general public.
PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Demand: Light
- 20 pounds maximum lifting.
- Frequent (up to 2/3 of the work time) lifting, carrying up to 10 lbs.
- If less lifting is involved, will require significant walking/standing may be required.
- If mostly sitting is involved will require push/pull on arm or leg controls.
- Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word or perceiving sound by ear.
- Good eyesight for production or safety of self and others.
- Physical agility is required in kneeling, bending, stooping, and reaching.
- Required to have clear vision at distances of 20 inches or less.
