Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Travel Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) to provide expert patient care across various healthcare facilities in,. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in oncology nursing, with experience in diverse clinical settings, and a passion for delivering compassionate, patient-centered care. This role offers the opportunity to work in dynamic environments, supporting patients through their cancer treatment journeys while utilizing advanced nursing skills and comprehensive clinical knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to oncology patients, including administration of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and supportive treatments such as Botulinum toxin therapy.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and evaluation of symptoms related to cancer and its treatments.
- Manage complex medication administration protocols, ensuring adherence to safety standards and proper documentation within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic and Cerner.
- Coordinate care plans with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians specializing in hematology-oncology, radiation therapy, and supportive care services.
- Educate patients and their families on treatment options, side effect management, and post-treatment care strategies.
- Monitor for adverse reactions or complications related to oncology therapies and implement appropriate interventions promptly.
- Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations including HIPAA standards, infection control protocols, and safety procedures specific to oncology nursing.
- Support patients through various stages of treatment, including outpatient infusion centers or inpatient units within hospital settings equipped with Level I Trauma Center experience or similar high-acuity environments.
Requirements
- Active NJ or Compact nursing license at time of submission.
- Minimum of 2 recent years of Oncology experience and 2 years of RN experience
- Certifications required at time of submission: ACLS, BLS, CHEMO (ONS/ONCC).
- Charting system experience: EPIC (required).
- Patient ratio experience.
- Ability to float within scope of skillset as needed.
- Availability to work 2 of 3 holidays.
- No active or open background or license hits.
- Ability to make up missed shifts within the same pay period.
- No international work history or permanent residency unless disclosed.
- Willingness to comply with floating policies and patient ratios based on acuity
- Previous charge nurse experience.
- Experience with hematological malignancies, bone marrow transplant, CAR-T therapy, chemotherapy administration, solid oncology diagnoses.
- Skills in port management, blood product management, bone marrow and chemotherapy administration, and specialized procedures.
- Community hospital or LTAC experience.
- Experience with trauma level I/II (preferred but not required).
- Experience with complex oncology care, including managing side effects, extravasation, Graft-versus-host disease, neutropenic precautions, and related patient education.
- Ability to manage invasive lines, central lines, PICC lines, and perform phlebotomy.
- Experience with infusion pumps, IV management, and special equipment.
- Knowledge of immunotherapy, hormonal therapy, cytotoxic therapy, and blood product administration.
- Competency in recognizing abnormal lab values and side effects.
