Cicero Animal Clinic is seeking a Veterinary Assistant / Client Service Representative to join our team in a unique cross-trained role supporting both the clinical floor and the front desk.
This is an excellent opportunity for an entry-level candidate who is outgoing, people-oriented, and ready to grow in two directions at once. This role is intentionally split between VA and CSR responsibilities — some days you'll be in the exam room assisting with outpatient procedures and patient care, and others you'll be at the front desk managing client interactions, scheduling, and communications. No prior veterinary experience is required — what matters most is a positive attitude, strong communication skills, a genuine love for animals, and the flexibility to show up wherever the team needs you most.
In this position, you will play a critical role in supporting efficient hospital operations on both sides of the practice, creating positive client experiences, and ensuring patients receive compassionate, high-quality care throughout every stage of their visit. Success in this role requires attention to detail, a proactive mindset, and the ability to anticipate the needs of both the veterinary team and clients.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting efficient exam room check-in and outpatient workflow to ensure exceptional patient and client care
- Assist veterinarians during outpatient appointments and treatments providing gentle patient restraint and handling
- Welcoming clients at the front desk, managing appointment flow, and handling multi-line phone communication
- Scheduling appointments, coordinating patient arrivals, and supporting daily front desk operations as needed
- Building positive relationships with clients through education, communication, and attentive service
Schedule and compensation:
- Compensation: $17 - 18 per hour, for each hour worked
- This is a full-time position, with a flexible 4 or 5-day work week, Monday–Friday. All full-time staff work at least one closing shift per week until 8:30 PM. No on-call requirements.
Full-time Benefits Package*:
- Bonus package: Up to $500 depending on previous veterinary assistant experience
- Health package: Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Life insurance and disability
- Employee Assistance Program
- 401k with company match
- Paid time off in accordance with site policy and applicable law
- Personal pet discount
- Part-time team members may be eligible for limited benefits in accordance with company policy and state law
Minimum qualifications and skill set:
- 1+ year of experience in a veterinary assistant, veterinary receptionist, kennel assistant, or related role preferred
- Proficiency in the following skills:
- Safe animal handling and restraint skills for dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
- Ability to assist with exams, treatments, and outpatient procedures
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols
- Ability to prioritize tasks and multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Compassionate, professional communication with clients and team members
- Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
