The Madeira School is seeking a Plumber to join its Facilities Department. Madeira is seeking a Maintenance team member for the Facilities Department. Madeira is an independent boarding and day school that educates girls in grades 9–12. The scenic 376-acre campus is just 10 miles from Washington, DC. Responsibilities:
- ·Repairs, installs and troubleshoots a variety of plumbing components, DDC controls, boilers, hot water/steam piping and the functioning of air conditioning units, cooling towers, chillers, and backflow preventers.
- Regularly inspects plumbing and plumbing related equipment; performs preventative maintenance on such equipment.
- Maintains a base knowledge of Geothermal Systems.
- Maintains and updates knowledge of local, state and national codes and of hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, diagrams, sketches, blueprints and manufacturers’ manuals.
- Provides estimate time and material needs to determine whether repair is economically practical.
- Assist other team members and perform other duties within the Facilities department.
- Work a weekend shift every 5th weekend at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
This is a physical job that will require strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks, including several hours daily of: Standing, kneeling, bending, walking and climbing stairs. Lifting and the ability to carry 50 pounds or more. Able to work on ladders of all types including but not limited to step and extension ladders (up to 40’), and on power assisted elevated working platforms (scissor lifts, etc.).
Exposure to hot/cold, wet/humid weather conditions and dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Position is considered as “Essential Personnel” and is expected to report to work when school is closed due to power outage or weather conditions. Overnight stay may be required during inclement weather. May be required to work overtime, accept call-back overtime or regular overtime, as needed, and agree to assume an emergency call-out list status.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or completion of an acceptable apprentice-level Plumbing and associated trades training program.
- 10 years of experience at the journeyman level.
- Licensed plumber preferred; HVAC experience is a plus.
- Ability to work within the overall organization of the Facilities Services Department and work with skilled and unskilled personnel as well as administrators.
- Ability to work in an independent, unsupervised atmosphere.
- Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) in English and be able to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to safely lift 50 pounds.
- Must possess knowledge and technical skills required for the repair and maintenance of plumbing, heating, and electrical systems, fixtures, devices and applications.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must be accessible and available in the event of emergencies or when needed to meet the ongoing missions of the school.
