CDL Trucking Company Manager — Roles and Responsibilities
Position Overview
The CDL Trucking Company Manager oversees all daily operations of the trucking company, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant transportation services. This role involves managing drivers, logistics, maintenance, and regulatory compliance to maximize profitability while maintaining exceptional safety and service standards.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Operations Management
- Oversee daily dispatching, routing, and scheduling of CDL drivers and fleet vehicles.
- Monitor and analyze delivery operations to ensure on-time performance and service quality.
- Implement efficiency improvements for routes, fuel usage, and load planning.
- Ensure trucks and drivers meet DOT (Department of Transportation) standards before departure.
2. Driver Supervision and HR Management
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and train qualified CDL drivers and support staff.
- Monitor driver performance, compliance, and adherence to company policies.
- Conduct regular driver meetings on safety, updates, and performance reviews.
- Resolve personnel conflicts, enforce disciplinary actions when necessary, and recognize high performers.
3. Compliance and Safety Oversight
- Ensure full compliance with FMCSA and DOT regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS) and electronic logging device (ELD) requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date driver qualification files, vehicle inspection reports, and maintenance logs.
- Conduct periodic audits and safety inspections to minimize violations or accidents.
- Implement and enforce company safety policies and accident response procedures.
4. Fleet and Maintenance Management
- Oversee preventive maintenance schedules and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with mechanics and vendors for parts, inspections, and repairs.
- Manage truck registration, insurance, permits, and licensing.
- Recommend fleet expansion, upgrades, or replacements based on operational needs.
5. Financial and Administrative Duties
- Develop, track, and manage operational budgets and cost control strategies.
- Approve fuel, maintenance, and vendor invoices; monitor expenses.
- Analyze profitability, mileage, and load efficiency reports for performance improvement.
- Support billing, invoicing, and settlement processes with accounting.
6. Customer Service and Relationship Management
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, brokers, and logistics partners.
- Address customer concerns and resolve service issues promptly.
- Ensure delivery accuracy and timeliness to support customer satisfaction and retention.
- Assess market trends to identify new business opportunities.
7. Strategic Planning and Growth
- Develop long-term operational strategies to enhance productivity and profitability.
- Identify process improvements through technology, software, and automation tools.
- Lead business expansion initiatives, including new routes, contracts, and fleet scaling.
- Report performance metrics and insights to executive leadership.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Valid CDL-A (preferred) or deep understanding of CDL operations.
- Proven experience in transportation or logistics management.
- Strong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations.
- Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in dispatch and fleet management software.
- Ability to manage budgets, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
Pay: $58,000.00 - $78,500.00 per year
