CNC Machinist – Level 4 (Senior Machinist)

Alsip Manufacturing is a 54-year-old custom job shop specializing in precision machining, fabrication, and assemblies. We serve OEMs across industrial automation, food processing, energy, and manufacturing. We focus on low-to-medium volume, high-mix work—no production grind, no button-pushing.
We’re looking for aLevel 4 Machinist—a true senior machinist who can independently run jobs from print to completion and help raise the bar on the shop floor.
What a Level 4 Machinist Does Here
This is not an entry-level or “setup-assist” role. You will be trusted to:
- Set up and run CNC mills and/or lathes independently
- Interpret complex blueprints, GD&T, and job travelers
- Select tooling, workholding, speeds, and feeds
- Program at the machine or modify existing programs (G-code / conversational)
- Hold tight tolerances and verify parts using precision measuring tools
- Troubleshoot machining issues and optimize cycle times
- Complete first-article inspections and in-process checks
- Work with engineering, programming, and leadership to improve processes
- Mentor junior machinists when needed
Required Experience & Skills
- 7+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience
- Strong experience with CNC milling and/or turning
- Ability to fully set up jobs without supervision
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
- Experience machining steel, stainless, aluminum, bronze, and similar materials
- Proficient with micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and indicators
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and quality-driven
Preferred (Not Required)
- Experience with Hurco, Mazak, or similar CNC machines
- Programming experience (conversational or G-code)
- Job shop background (high-mix / low-volume work)
- Experience with prototyping and custom one-off parts
- Mastercam
