Responsibilities
- Provide peer support and mentorship to individuals experiencing mental health conditions and substance use disorders, utilizing your lived experience to foster trust and hope
- Conduct crisis intervention and crisis management to de-escalate situations and ensure safety for clients and staff
- Assist clients in developing personalized recovery plans, incorporating harm reduction strategies and motivational interviewing techniques
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care, document progress in electronic health record (EHR) systems, and track outcomes
- Educate clients on behavioral health topics, addiction counseling, social work principles, and available community resources
- Support clients in developing coping skills, managing symptoms, and navigating mental health services with compassion and understanding
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all organizational policies regarding client privacy and safety
Experience
- Lived experience with mental health conditions or substance use disorders required; certification as a Peer Support Specialist preferred
- Prior experience working with individuals with co-occurring disorders or behavioral health challenges highly desirable
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques, crisis management protocols, and harm reduction principles essential
- Familiarity with behavioral health practices, motivational interviewing, addiction counseling, social work concepts, and EHR systems advantageous
- Strong mentoring skills with the ability to motivate others toward recovery goals
- Excellent communication skills with an energetic approach to engaging clients in their recovery journey
