NOTE: This is an independent contracted position specifically for the West Lake Norman area: Denver, Sherrills Ford, Lincolnton, Terrell, etc. Candidate must live in that area.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Lactation Consultant in this independent contractor position is responsible for providing lactation consultant services to expectant and new parents. This includes providing lactation consults in the family's home (primarily north Charlotte and Lake Norman area) as well as video consults. The Lactation Consultant will develop a Personalized Care Plan for each family that is sent to the mother and pediatrician. Additionally, the Lactation Consultant will engage her local community and network to expand awareness of lactation support services. Minimum availability of 15 hours per week.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to successfully and compassionately assist parents with lactation and infant care skills. Ability to build relationships with families to continue supporting them from pregnancy through weaning. Ability to collaborate well with other Health Care Providers using evidence-based knowledge and medical terminology. Knowledge of holistic approaches to lactation, infant care and postpartum wellness. Ability to apply multiple disciplines (psychology, biology, anthropology) to counseling philosophy. Excellent time management skills and self-motivated. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Ability to quickly learn new processes and technology platforms.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
Valid driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, & automobile insurance
Laptop, smart phone and printer
Lives in Denver, Sherrills Ford, Lincolnton, or other west Lake Norman town
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
2+ years work experience as an IBCLC
graduate or current student
HOURS & LOCATION: Ideal availability of five consults per week, for 48 out of 52 weeks of the year. This is equivalent to approximately 15 hours of work per week (estimate includes consults, driving, charting, correspondence). Work from home 50% - Private residence of client 50%. Lactation Consultant can set their own schedule for consults Sunday - Saturday between hours of 8am and 8pm.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION: Physical and emotional health sufficient to meet the specific job demands including but not limited to: Normal office conditions, plus dexterity for typing and for entering data into the computer, operating a motor vehicle, standing, walking, bending, carrying and lifting equipment (up to 20 lbs). Able to hear well and speak clearly. (Reasonable accommodation will be considered where appropriate).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts in-home or telehealth lactation consults within designated territory.
- Consults with parents on lactation, infant feeding and infant care topics
- Creates a Personalized Care Plan documenting history, observations and recommendations (SOAP). Sends electronic copy to mothers and pediatricians within 24 hours.
- Completes training and continuing education as required by Company and IBLCE policies.
- Maintains professional liability insurance according to Company policy
- Answers telephone calls/emails/texts in a timely manner and triages calls/emails/texts as requested by supervisor.
- Recommends appropriate breastfeeding related retail products to mothers.
- Cleans and prepares equipment for use (scale provided by Company).
- Provides appointment coverage, as needed, when other counselors are absent or unavailable.
- Stays connected with team members and supervisor via email and telephone.
- Attends monthly team meeting.
- Maintains a positive overall attitude and presents well for the company.
- Learns all aspects of duties related to company operations.
- Consults with team and/or supervisor on complex cases.
- Provides non-judgmental advice, empathy and compassion to support client goals.
- Engages local community and network on social media and in community events to expand awareness for the lactation support services offered by Lake Norman Breastfeeding Solutions.
- Carries out other duties as assigned.
Pay: $15,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
