Overview
We’re looking for a detail-oriented Legal Secretary / Legal Assistant with experience in Workers’ Compensation defense to join our busy law team. This role supports attorneys handling complex cases in a fast-paced office. The right candidate is proactive, highly organized, and comfortable with legal research and document management. You’ll help keep case workflows running smoothly, ensure accurate record-keeping, and communicate professionally with clients and partners while maintaining confidentiality.
Key responsibilities
- Provide administrative support to attorneys working on Workers’ Compensation defense matters, including scheduling, calendar management, and meeting coordination.
- Draft, review, and proofread pleadings, discovery responses, reports, and correspondence with care and accuracy.
- Conduct legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other resources to support case strategy and compliance.
- Maintain and organize case files using document-management systems (e.g., iManage, PCLaw), ensuring documents are current and properly filed.
- Assist with document review, data entry, and contract drafting across practice areas such as personal injury, family law, landlord–tenant, and others as needed.
- Communicate with clients, witnesses, medical providers, insurance carriers, and court personnel by phone and in writing, using professional phone etiquette and clear correspondence.
- Support litigation tasks such as preparing trial binders, organizing evidence, and helping with deposition and hearing preparation.
Qualifications
- Prior experience as a legal secretary or legal assistant in a law firm; paralegal experience strongly preferred.
- Broad knowledge of legal administrative practices across multiple areas (Workers’ Compensation, personal injury, family law, landlord–tenant, securities, environmental, estate planning, tribal regulations, patent, UCC, immigration, land use and zoning).
- Proficient with legal research tools (Westlaw, LexisNexis); experience with iManage, PCLaw, or similar document-management systems is a plus.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities accurately.
- Strong writing, proofreading, and transcription skills for drafting legal documents and correspondence.
- Experience with litigation support (document review, case management) and familiarity with contracts and legal drafting.
- Solid clerical skills: data entry, file management, and phone/administrative support.
- Understanding of basic project management principles to track deadlines and coordinate tasks.
- Strong research ability, attention to detail, and the capacity to interpret complex legal information.
Pay: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour
