Scuba Equipment Sales Specialist
Location: Irvine, CA (in-store) | Type: Full-time — Associate to Manager level, depending on experience | Compensation: Base salary + commission (contract/commission-only available for dive instructors)
About the Role
We're looking for a scuba gear sales specialist to drive sales across our online and retail store. This is first and foremost a sales position — your job is to help customers find the right gear, close sales, and build lasting customer relationships. Extensive product knowledge is essential.
The ideal candidate is an experienced, active diver who is passionate about diving and dive gear. You can "talk scuba" — explaining the technical differences between regulators, BCDs, computers, and exposure protection — and translate a customer's needs into the right equipment recommendation, whether they're in the store, on the phone, or chatting online.
This position is open to scuba gear specialists, sales associates, retail managers, and active instructors (current or those looking to teach through our shop). Depending on your experience, the role can grow into retail sales management.
Core Responsibilities — Sales & Customer Service
- Recommend products and gear packages to customers in person, online, and over the phone
- Provide quotes, follow up on leads, and close sales
- Build product bundles tailored to customer needs and budgets
- Post products for sale online and engage with customers via email and chat
- Answer technical questions and help every customer find the gear that's best for them
Additional Responsibilities — Retail Operations
- Retail merchandising and keeping the sales floor clean, organized, and shoppable
- Inspect returns and assist with gear servicing
- Help with class bookings and rental gear management
- Teach students (if you're a certified instructor)
Growth Path — Retail Sales Management
For candidates with the right experience, this role can expand to include:
- Growing the retail business and customer base
- Managing vendor relationships
- Developing the retail dive business
- Partnering with local dive shops and instructors to set up classes
Qualifications
- Proven sales experience — retail, e-commerce, or dive industry
- Active diver with strong, current knowledge of scuba equipment
- Excellent communication skills in person, over the phone, and in writing (email/chat)
- Scuba instructor certification is a plus, not a requirement
For Instructors
If you're a certified instructor, please state your current instructor status and what you're looking for — we'll work with you to set up classes. A contract and commission-only arrangement is available for instructors.
Compensation & Level
The position ranges from associate to managerial level depending on experience, with commission available on top of base salary.
To apply: Tell us about your sales experience, your diving background, and (if applicable) your instructor status.
